Arrow Next Bourne Based on The Parsifal Mosaic?

Producer Frank Marshall revealed today at The Curious Case of Benjamin Button where the next "Bourne" adventure might be headed, citing one of Robert Ludlum's books, "The Parsifal Mosaic" as potential source material.

Q: What's happening with "Bourne" now that you have access to the Robert Ludlum library?

Frank Marshall: Well, that's the good news. We now have access to all the Ludlum story ideas. We're going to make the fourth movie from them.

Q: And Matt's signed on?

Marshall: No, the only people signed on right now is George Nolfi, the writer, and me. We have to get a good script and then, hopefully, Matt will follow.

Q: Would this come at all from the new book, "The Bourne Betrayal"?

Marshall: No, the "Bourne Betrayal" was written by a friend of Ludlum's.... It had nothing to do with us.... We want to stay true to the original character.

Q: Any ideas for a "Bourne" title?

Marshall: Well, there's a lot of jokes. "Bourne Again," "Bourne Yesterday," "Bourne Free," "Bourne on the Fourth." I actually want to do that. Call it that and release the movie on the fourth.

Q: Would you want to do a straight adaptation from one of the novels?

Marshall: Actually, there is. "The Parsifal Mosaic" is one that we like.

"The Parsifal Mosiac," not a "Bourne" adventure as a novel, deals with a U.S. spy who falls in love with another spy who is revealed to be a double agent just before her death. When he retires from the business, though, the spy learns that she may still be alive and sets out to learn the truth.

Depending on how they wrote the story, it could get very interesting. They already have the love interest that was killed off in the 2nd Bourne movie. If they wrote her in as a spy that was watching him trying to handle him and take him out of the game, they could get complex with it. It would force us to think about how they met, and where things went from there, and what her ultimate goal was with him.

If they just up and gave him another love interest though, I see it falling flat on it's face. Bourne's driving force was that his wife/girlfriend (I forget which) was murdered before his eyes when neither of them had done anything. Just arbitrarily saying "Oh, he's in love again" wouldn't be very feasible.

I won't see it without Matt Damon. I already didn't want a 4th one because I like how the 3rd one ended but if Matt does it i'll definitely go see it.

It doesn't make sense, that book as nothing to do with Jason Bourne?

that's alright, the movies have very little to do with the books anyways. While I thought the books were much better than the movies, I can see why they changed the main details and plot (given that most teens would have no ideas who the Jackal is).

The third Bourne film seem like the culmination of that storyline, ending with him dissappearing. I wouldn't be surprised if the next story jumps ahead several years with Bourne being married with children/expecting and having that new love interest be a spy. It would seem a little bit like a retread of the previous storyline from 2 and 3, but perhaps they could make it work.

The books and the movies were almost completely different anyways, so it's okay if they draw from other Ludlum novels. I think it should be called: The Bourne _______, to stay in line with the other movies.

As soon as we saw Bourne swim away in the "Ultimatum", everyone HAD to know that there'd be a fourth film, even though that was the end of the line as far as the books go.

i'm sure if greengrass and damon return it will be great, but i really wish they would just leave this series alone. it had a great start, a great end, please just pull a back to the future and let it be remembered as a fantastic trilogy.

i hope these don't turn into something like a bond-esque series where there will be 30 of them and every 5-10 someone new is recasted

Instead of taking a book that has the Jason Bourne character because it was written by one of Ludlum's friends, let's take a totally unrelated book and make it the 4th Bourne movie.
