We should be getting a UHD this year and GB had a re-release for it's anniversary so probably yeah.

Uhd coming in September. E.T. will follow by Christmas. Hopefully 2018 will give us Jaws and the Jurassic Parks.

This masterpiece has a ridiculously low average rating on IMDb (as does E.T.).

Not that such observation has anything to do with the teaser. Just had to get that off my chest.

Update: Entertainment Weekly has confirmed our suspicions, that it is an “exclusive theatrical re-release in time for its 40th anniversary.”

I see no reason for a re-release. The current 3-disc edition has all the versions, nice packaging, a cool booklet and solid PQ. Whats the point?

No but the 4K UHD is coming out in the Fall.

I wonder if Sony/Columbia is culling new DCPs of this considering every screening of the 'Director's Cut' in and around the DC metro area has been 35mm only

Holds up just fine. This and Jaws are untouchable masterpieces in my book.

I didn't see it when it first came out, but I first watched it as a kid and it holds up beautifully. In fact, I only realized its greatness after the second viewing. So, different strokes for different folks.

I saw it in Nov 1977 in the theater and it still holds up just fine! In fact I think it holds up better than even some much later films.
