Default internal crack in plasma

We bought a Samsung plasma tv with an extended 2 year warranty from a Best Buy on 2/7/11. About 4 months later we had a green line appear and Geeksquad came and fixed it but left a couple of screws out the back we later noticed. Right after that a thick white line started showing up where the green line was but it went away so we cancelled another repair. On 11/11/11 there was a thin black line going across the bottom and then it cracked right where the black line was and the picture went black and only the sound worked. We called Geeksquad and they wouldn't fix it because they said it was physical damage, basically calling us liars and told us to call Samsung. Samsung told us to send pictures and when they got back to us said it was physical damage as well. This is ridiculous since we didn't touch the tv how could it be physical damage. There isn't even a scratch on the outside of the glass, it's perfectly smooth.Samsung finally offered to pay for the parts if we pay for the labor and this is unacceptable since it's under warranty and we did not damage the tv we should not have to pay anything. We looked up consumer reports after this and have found this same thing has happened to many others. There are numerous reports of this on cnet.com and other sites that mention thermal expansion being the cause of this internal cracking. I also spoke to a woman named Nikki DeLellis who won her case against Samsung for the same issue. She gave me her case number which is 2:2009cv05114. I have filed reports to BBB case# 80214867,FTC #33610297 Florida and New Jersey Attorney General which I'm still waiting to hear from. This tv has had 3 issues since we bought it and it's not even a year old. This is extremely unfair for Samsung to treat us like this and we will not let this go since we are not at fault. Do not buy Samsung!!!

That's why you have to look at consumer reports first. I'll never by a Sammy product. Many others on this site feel the same and know why. I'm sorry you are in this shitty spot & hope it all works out for you. Lots will say well I've had my Sammy TV for 3yrs with no problems, Sammy is a great brand (their frickin lucky & should play the lotto). F*%k no their not. Not to mention the worst customer service in the business hands down. Even after YEARS of storys like yours , there has been zero change. I've had BD since Oct 2006. I will never buy anything Sammy. The people who have been around and seen, bought & heard first hand accounts of the tons of credible story's about problems with BD players to TVs to cell phones. The horrific CS they are known for has been like this since they hit on more peoples radar in 2006 with Blu-ray. They could not manufacture a BD player worth $hi7 to save their life & their firmware up dates were few and far between, if at all. I don't know if that's changed but I don't want to find out. Many members on this site will agree with me, mainly the OG members that know how sammy was in
the early years of BD , & still are apparently.... Moral to the story samsungs customer service SUCKS.

I'm not sure if you are the same OP from a while back who had the same problem or not. Just know you are not alone. Keep on them about the problem, & update us on what transpires. I'm glad you brought it to the BBB's attention.

[QUOTE=STONECOLD132003;5502128]The way that i can tell the screen is cracked without opening the set is when you look at the set from a 90 degree angle you can see a crack its quite noticable when the set is off. You cant feel the crack on the outside cause the crack is behind the front glass, there is also alot of other people that have had this exact problem with this particular model doing the same thing, just google plasma cracking and there are hundreds just like me that samsung is telling us that we're SCREWED! I talked to my local BEST BUY rep today and he told me to call the BEST BUY main office or even SAMSUNG directly. He said that most likely SAMSUNG will blow me off like everyone else has. There's also a class action lawsuit against SAMSUNG as we speak cause of this defect in this problem. I just want my tv fixed, store credit or something done. The set works all but the screen. If anyone from samsung reads these i will be calling monday to get something done, i hope.

[/STONECOLD132003 is right. There are hundreds of unsatisfied customers withe the same problem. Screen cracked form the inside, no visible signs of damage on outside os screen. SAMSUNG claims that all complaints are caused by the customers(physical damage) and not by thermal expansion. I have the same problem. None of the warranties will cover the damages. NONE of the warranties are going to repair or replace the tv. The didn't even bother to send a tech to look at my tv, just diagnosed the problem over the phone DAMAGE UNSEEN by them.
By the way H. H. Gregg is out of business. And conveniently for SAMSUNG, they do not have an authorized repair shop in my area, so they say.

I have been a Samsung fan for many year's, but after reading these problem's with the Plasma's, well let's just say SHAME ON YOU SAMSUNG . The only plasma I owned was a Panasonic. For the owner's who opted for the extended warranties, they should be treated with respect and be offered in store credit from where they purchased the unit for a replacement model. This really does suck that Samsung was aware of this problem because of the class action lawsuit that was filed, and should have recalled these Plasma's, with proper repairing/replacement, warranty or not!!!!!

Agreed, but with the way they're bleeding money.. smh lol

That being said I have 2 2012 Sammy Plammy's that are working great! I guess I was one of the lucky one's that didn't get a crack from the inside.. yet.. *knocks on wood*

that's a shame, it sucks that their products are so hit or miss.

I love my 2 samsungs, can't imagine what i'll replace them with when they cease to work.

Same here. I know a day will come when my plasma will stop working (hopefully, not anytime soon - knock on wood ), and I'm not sure if I'm ready to migrate to OLED, but for now, I'm holding on to my Samsung.

That being said, I did just order a new logic board to bring the Sammy back to life! lol Still cheaper than a new OLED
