Ghoulies II : Uncut German Blu Ray

Ghoulies II had just about 60-seconds cut out from its original release, and that’s unfortunately the only version of the film that has ever been released on home video over the years. But that changes tomorrow, when German company NSM Records finally releases the 1988 sequel fully uncut and on Blu-ray!

Graham Le Neve Painter, who runs the fan site Ghoulies Movies, for bringing this one to our attention. Graham told us that he has watched the NSM release and can confirm that it’s the previously unreleased full version of the film.

“I was asked to look over a cut of Ghoulies II for NSM Records who are releasing Ghoulies and Ghoulies II on beautiful English language Blu Ray mediabooks in Germany tomorrow,” he told us today. “I’ve just had confirmation that Ghoulies 2 is the original R Rated UNCUT version that has never been released on any format before. It also has a longer shot of Philip Hardin getting his ass eaten on the toilet as well as all the uncut scenes reinserted.”

Well I just got the boxed set from NSM containing the first three movies. I assume the disc for part 2 is the same as this release.

It played fine in my American PS4, so it does seem to be region free.

But the main transfer of the movie is not uncut. In order to watch the uncut version, you need to go to “Bonus” and select “R-Rated-Fassung”. The R-rated version is presented without chapter markers and certain shots are VHS rips.

Most of the uncut goodies are in full 16:9 HD, but a handful of shots are super low-quality 4:3. I understand the footage is likely lost and this is the best they could do, but it’s very distracting and annoying. I might just stick with the PG-13 cut in the future.

I wish they’d included a third cut that just included the new HD footage and omitted the SD shots.

Yep, got the 3 movie media book as well and watched Ghoulies 2 and was cursing that this was not the R-rated version. Checked the bonus features and found the uncut version there as mentioned above. The first movie is the uncut version only which looks great. Have not watched the third one yet.

The set is region free and plays fine on my Sony and Oppo Region A players
