Probably..it seemed complicated. I sold the old one and it ended up only being about $200 difference.

Honestly, I have audio sync issues all the time, and thought having an additional hdmi which only make matters worse

I bought a new AVR for DV as well but I needed it more to get Atmos and DV out of my Chromecast Ultra. The DVR does sound better than my old one as well.

Guess I need to route another cable though the wall to avoid having to upgrade my receiver. I bought the 7200 for the amount of HDMIs it had and because it was the only one at the time that was 4K upgradable. Of course it is now useless for DV and the receiver forums are pretty much telling me that anything out before the end of the year or early 2018 will also be outdated soon enough.

'John Wick 2' is probably my favorite looking UHD disc released so far this year.

But Geoff,

you can't really bring Dolby Vision into this discussion. 'Power Rangers' is just such an ugly looking film, made by a visionless director. No amount of special HDR-sauce can make this film look even remotely stylish or interesting compared to 'John Wick 2.'

It actually goes back to what you said before about how important image-capturing is. And, in the case of 'John Wick 2', exceptional lighting certainly helps, too.

EDIT: actually, I would say JW2 is my 2nd favorite disc from this year. First one still has to be 'Logan.'

I'm not Geoff, but I'm pretty sure it means Dolby Vision can't make everything look like the second coming like some fanboys would almost/would attest to.

That's not even part of the discussion. Of course, no matter what HDR is being applied, if a film itself is ugly; it's ugly.

My receiver actually will be getting a DV update according to some insiders on AVS but not until Spring 18.

Anyone here have a 2016 Samsung 4k tv? If so, have you found out when the HDR10+/HDR Dynamic firmware update is available?

And on that we both agree, sir. It's just that Dolby Vision gets SO much hype and misinformation spewed around that people may very well expect it to make everything shine up like crazy good HDR, and could be disappointed when it doesn't. Hence my irony-laden post upthread.

Man what a disappointment this movie was for me. Waited months for this movie because I was going to buy the 4K. Was hoping for some exciting transformers like battles like the trailer. What I got was a slogfest for an hour and a half teen highschool drama, and then 20 minutes of power ranger action at the end. By the end of the movie I just wanted to go to sleep.

Caution for blind buyers, this movie hardly has any action, lots and lots of talking and teen high school drama.

Yeah. It also has like 15 mins of credits. The first night I watched it, I shut it off after 80 minutes thinking I had like 45 mins left. Turns out it was like 25 and it i was 5 mins away from the battles. The pacing of the movie makes it seem like they expect a trilogy or something. It felt very Divergenty.

Default Dolby Vision :: WOW (no) :: accuracy & naturalness (yes)

i do not expect the 'WOW Factor' as might be the popular expectation

i do expect that the picture quality is the best possible as intended by the director/studio as graded/mastered (which i may or may not appreciate, but at least it's a good starting point and represents their respective artistic intent)

specifically, that it looks both natural and realistic, not artificial or otherwise :: this would include the collective improvements of resolution - color - contrast

Not to beat a dead horse, but it all goes back to image-capture.

Hence why films like 'John Wick 2'--and my personal favorite UHD disc so far, 'Sicario'--look infinitely better.

I'm still on that Dolby train for several reasons, though: 1.) looks like there's truth to no color-banding, even feeding through 10-bit panels--and 2.) dynamic metadata, which will matter to people when it comes to a film that they really like, where they want to see the most amount of detail possible.

Actually I thought the first 90 minutes very pretty good. Better than expected. Then the Power Rangers action starts and it goes all downhill. Massive use of CGI with a few real faces put in here and there and not very interesting.

But I never was a Power Rangers fan...

I emailed OPPO customer service about the DV black bar issue. Here is the reply I received:

"We have read about similar issues with Dolby Vision titles but we have not yet replicated it in-house in our offices on the three Dolby Vision compatible displays that we use for product development and testing.

Best Regards,

Customer Service
OPPO Digital, Inc."

I replied and asked them about testing on a non-DV display. 4K or 1080p. Will update with their reply.
