Question Samsung blu-ray player picture issue

I purchased this player on the day it was released. I have tried two different monster hdmi cables on my sony 32" direct view tv. My tv has DVI inputs so both these monter cables are hdmi to dvi type.
Issue: set at 1080i I see a light vertical bar move from right to left continuously visible on darker scenes or when the screen is black. It is less visible when set at 720p and 480P.
Does anyone else have this issue? I am trying to look past it since the movies look so good compared to DVD. I also would prefer to have it set to 1080i the majority of the time.

Thanks in advance for your help.

this sounds isolated, I would exchange the player. If you're still getting it then it's your tv's input. You could also try component.

Thumbs up Thanks

I would like to stay away from using component because it does not upconvert dvd's. But I will try it just too see if the picture still has the light bar. Come to think of it, I think my Directv hd receiver does the same things but not as obvious. Using the same type connection and component.

Thanks again!

if your DTV is doing it, it's not the player.

Also, I thought the samsung could upconvert over component?

Smile component

I could be mistaking. But If I remember correctly the blu-ray players only upconvert 480p dvd's via HDMI. But hey if that's incorrect I will definetily try it.
Thanks for the input.

On my Samsung P1000 I hit the resolution button on my monitor while playing an ordinary DVD and it was indeed 480p through component.

Try it on HDMI when my cable arrives.

Nope. That was my understanding also. It does a piss poor job of playing DVDs at 480P. But I think that issue is understood and being addressed now.

Normally this left-to-right noise pattern is caused by interference on your video cables. Look for a case where you have a video cable routed near a power cable and try to re-arrange your cables to avoid that, or use a more shielded cable.

I've had that problem before and its pretty easy to clear up. Sounds identical.

It definitely up-converts to any resolution with HDMI. Looks good!

I will definitely move the cables around and test that. It makes sense that that could be could be causing the problem.
But at the same time those Monster cables cost around 100 bucks. Thats pricey I would think that the shielding would be better.
Thank you,
