I've always wanted to know this for Technical Reasons. One would assume the PS4 plays movies at a higher quality?

Personally, I prefer my PS3, because the remote is a lot easier to use.

On my 1080p plasma and on the 4K panel, I preferred the ps3. The 4, which I expected to be the same or better, wasn't. At least not to me. It looked like there was more edge enhancement running on the PS4 so by comparison, the 4 looked more harsh, too sharp. I will say however, that running regular BluRays through a 4K player on the plasma was no different than the PS3 but on the 4K panel, there was massive difference. I wouldn't run another bluray on the 4K panel via either Playstation again. Mind you, I have the same brand of player as the panel so they do 'talk' to each other very well.

I find that my PS3 audio is FAR quieter than my PS4 for BD playback. I really have to turn up the volume on the PS3. Visually, I can't really see any difference.
![]() I do still prefer my PS3 for playback though because it doesn't allow notifications to pop up on screen while watching and the menu/display design is far less intrusive during playback. The PS4 gives me all of my PSN message and "friend online" notifications in big white boxes on the top left of the screen during playback. Last time I checked, in order to turn these off, you have to do it for all instances and can't isolate for separate BD playback settings. I'm fine with it though. My PS3 doesn't get used for games anymore, so it's only a media unit anyhow. |
