This is a thread about the anime film In This Corner of the World, which will be released in select US theatres on August 11th. It will be jointly distributed by Shout! Factory and Funimation.
https://www.funimationfilms.com/movie/inthiscorner/ If you have seen the film already, feel free to discuss thoughts. I'm interested in hearing what people think. It's gotten good reviews in the UK. Last edited by llj; 07-27-2017 at 05:59 PM. |

I wanted to catch it while I was in Japan last winter, but I didn't really have the opportunity to see more than one movie. (I ended up seeing Your Name, which was a lot easier to catch a showing of.)
I pre-ordered the Special Edition Blu-ray though, since the word of mouth and critical reception has me pretty confident that I'll like it. |

I watched this yesterday and didn't find it that great. Might be a combination that I got awful seats at the theatre and that I found the pacing to drag at times and gloss over some really impactful moments at others. The art, however, was really good. I'd be willing to give this movie a 2nd chance under different viewing circumstances.

Yeah, I've been looking forward to this one much more so than Your Name, and because of my tastes in anime, I'm sure it will be the same for me, I'll like it better. I'm holding off on ordering it until the 14th though, because I'm also ordering Volume 6 of Little Witch Academia, which comes out on the 13th in Japan - I want to be sure they both ship together so they are more likely to be packed in a box rather than a wimpy padded bag - I'm in the process of sending a ¥9000 LE set back to Amazon JP as we speak because it shipped in a bag by itself and the one corner of the chipboard box got smashed. Used to be you didn't have to send anything back under ¥10000, they just sent you a replacement, but they've since lowered the limit to ¥7500...

Sorry to hear about that.... What a pain.... Mine arrived on Monday too, also in a flimsy bag... I was really afraid to open it, but fortunately, it was in near perfect condition... A couple of very slightly dented corners, but within reason of what I'd expect, even if were well-packaged...
What I don't get is their method of shipping things out.... I had actually ordered like 5 things, two of which were CDs that were released in August. For some reason they waited for a whole month to ship those.... I thought they were just waiting for In This Corner of the World to be released, or were going to wait for the as-yet unreleased pre-orders I had on that order, but for some reason they sent those CDs out a month after they were released, but before they shipped out the BD. So what did they wait a month for? So weird. This is the second time they've done something like this. Makes no sense considering the cost of shipping for them... Anyway, I haven't opened it yet, but I took a couple of quick shots, which should do until someone uploads something better. According to the obi, the only subs are Japanese subtitles for the hearing impaired. ![]() ![]() |

My replacements are arriving tomorrow, and the Customer Service guy said they told the shipping dept. to pack them secured in a box, so hopefully that happens. My reshipment of ACCA 13 LE came shrink-wrapped in a box after CS got involved...
Really, I think all Amazon (Not just JP but worldwide) would have to do is offer the secured packing as an option at checkout - even if they charge a few hundred Yen for it, I would pay extra to be assured of getting undamaged copies rather than deal with this Russian Roulette manner of packing, sometimes getting lucky and sometimes not. |

I just plan to buy either the US or UK release for subtitles (most likely I'll end up getting both, lol), and also for a lame English dub I can use when showing it to any guests.
EDIT: I just returned my damaged set of the ITCOTW LE, along with LWA TV Volume 6, at a DHL Express location about a half hour drive from home this morning. SO much easier than trying to get The UPS Store to do a DHL return to Amazon JP. I was in and out of the DHL office in 5 minutes or less, whereas I had to make two trips and wait over an hour for UPS to figure out how to enter the DHL information into their system. Also, this time I had an Amazon Account number to bill them directly for the return shipping, so there was no cost outlay for me. ![]() Last edited by Girls With Guns; 10-25-2017 at 10:41 AM. |
