Suggestions needed for computer speakers ~$150

I have had an amazing pair of Boston Acoustics MM226 computer speakers for like a decade. Before that I had a different set of BA speakers. The MM226s have finally stopped working and Boston no longer makes any sort of computer speakers that I can find.

Does anyone have any suggestions for great sounding speakers for around that $150 price point?

You are wanting to look for small powered studio monitor speakers, along the lines of something like these:

$150 is a hard price point for a pair though, $200 is more average for small studio monitors. The Kanto YU3 are $189 now on Massdrop....

I agree with Vracer... for awesome PC speakers, try to eke out a little more money.

Audioengine A2+

They are not as large as it looks in the photo. They would fit fine on a desk, but MAN they sound good for the price. A friend has them for his small bar, and it fills the entire place with good sounding music. Better than the Bose V-301, which ANOTHER friend of mine has. Those speakers are much bigger, and don't sound anywhere as good as the Audioengine A2+.

Well it looked like it to me that Vracer gave you a suggestion of a $189 speaker that he thought were good. Also, if you just go to Amazon, there are a ton of desktop computer speakers within your price range with literally 100's of user reviews for each. This should give you a better idea IMO.

We are trying to help, but it feels as if you think we're telling you to get a $1000 system versus bumping up no more than $100.

What vracer and myself suggested is that if you spend the time to save a LITTLE BIT more money, you can end up with higher satisfaction in the immediate - and long - run.

The Kanto Yu3 is a good deal on Massdrop, and for $50 more, you will have a higher yield in quality, moreso than most products within that price range..

Don't take our advice, that's fine. But I would say that a little more spent now will increase quality and longevity of your product.
Is $100 that difficult? Even if it takes a couple of months to accumulate? $100 isn't TOO bad. I think if I took a few weeks off from buying coffee and eating at restaurants, then BOOM there's a hundred dollars. :lol:

Otherwise, you can do what koover just stated: Look at the reviews yourself with an Amazon search within your price range.
An added bonus to that option would be if you find excellent speakers. You can update this thread with input on a product we may not know about!

I guess I should be more specific. I am not looking for small studio monitors. I am more looking for like a 2.1 system, made specifically for computer systems. I am fine with a sub that I can tuck away in the corner.

Also, I know I can go on Amazon and read reviews, but those are largely written by non-audio people, people who think Logitech sounds good... I'd really like to get word from people who know audio well. And I mean I know I can go drop $350 on some nice studio monitors for my desk, but I don't want to spend that much and I don't really have room for that on my desk next to my dual monitors.

I'm actually working with an electronics geek friend of mine to see if we can fix the small control pad on the Boston 2.1 system I have to see if we can get it working again. Cuz the speakers and the sub work great, but they literally don't power on without that control pad working right.

I like the Edifier powered speakers esp if you are on a budget.
