If Amazon Canada picks this up, i hope there's no english/french cover version. I have TV/movies/video games with french on it and i dont really care but for some reason, it puts me off on anime titles (which are mostly on movie titles and not really tv series).

Just as a quick reminder, the following GKIDS "Wave 1" titles had flawed Disney BD releases:
  • Castle in the Sky / Laputa (dubtitles)
  • Kiki's Delivery Service (dubtitles)
  • Nausicaa (burnt-in dub credits)
  • Princess Mononoke (dubtitles)
  • Ponyo (Lossy JP audio)
Unless you're a dub-only watcher, I'd recommend selling your Disney BDs of those releases and replace them with the GKIDS ones posthaste.

Note that the Disney BD releases of Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, and Spirited Away were fine, so there's no need to replace them unless you are really enticed by GKIDS' treatment for these films.

One last thing: It's interesting that the only available Miyazaki film (i.e. excluding Castle of Cagliostro and The Wind Rises) that's not included in GKIDS' "Wave 1" is Porco Rosso. I wonder what's up with that. If I were to select one film to get delayed, it would be Howl's Moving Castle which IMO is his worst film (in terms of narrative) by far.

- if it's on the Japanese Bluray (from Ghibli), we probably have it. If it's not, sorry, I wouldn't expect to see it at this time. Old dubs, old tweaks etc. Ghibli is extremely particular about their masters and what is "studio approved." While I share some fondness/nostalgia for previous versions of things, Ghibli is particular about the dub you hear and the presentation you receive. In a good way. These editions will be "studio approved." We are carefully reviewing transfers, updating subtitles (where appropriate) and going nuts on the QC process. And pushing some buttons on requests every now and then. If you already own these releases, I don't expect a double dip... yet. We are going to try to earn it : )

This is what I wanted to hear. Here's hoping they make it worth while.

I have all of the Disney releases, the Miyazaki box-set from Amazon, and the current GKIDS releases. I plan to pick up the Yamada's as well.

Now, I still need to figure out what I need to replace. I think the Miyazaki box-set pretty much takes care of the issues on the Miyazaki titles. But, I think I still need to replace some of the Takahata titles.

If it has a French dub, it will have bilingual packaging. I know Princess Kaguya was like that.

If it has French subtitles, I don't think it will - but I wouldn't be surprised if they put French on the cover anyway.

I wish Spirited Away would drop before Disney loses the rights. I got Howl's Moving Castle for $9 bucks through Amazon just now. It has a save $3.13 when you order one notice on the page, no idea why, so I jumped on it.

Spirited Away is the highest-profile Miyazaki film whose BD release wasn't botched by Disney, so there's little reason to do a price drop on that particular title. It's not like the GKIDS' release will be significantly better technically, nor will it be less expensive than $20.

Hey OP, you're missing links for Ponyo, Porco Rosso, and The Secret World of Arrietty.

I'm in the same situation as you. Personally, I'm replacing Grave of the Firefles because the Sentai release not including a slip drives me nuts. However, I wonder if GKids will get their shit together and have a consistent spine design for their new Ghibli releases because so far nothing matches at all:

GKIDS will not be releasing Grave of the Fireflies. That license will stay with Sentai. Same with The Wind Rises will stay with Disney.

I would love it if Gkids got the rights to the live action Grave of the Fireflies Tv mini series. That is the story told from the point of view of the aunt.

Is Universal releasing the new ones? If so, I would assume all of them should match except for Poppy Hill, which was released through Cinedigm.

All of the Cinedigm GKIDS releases match, as well as all of the Universal ones. Not sure why the placement changed once they started releasing through Universal though...

We still don't know if they'll have any flaws yet. Maybe on Ponyo for now since it might get a lossless JP audio.

So far I'm not selling my Disney collection to get these.

I personally really only bother with the dubs, so I'm not selling off my Disney films. May buy Princess Kaguya again just to get a nice slip, though. LOVE that movie.

GKids has stated they are not re-releasing the titles they already released. So unless I missed something, Kaguya isn't getting a second release.
