Let me echo, what do you mean when you say "see 4K fine"? Like any resolution, you don''t want to be crawling up on it. Give your self some space and always go big if you can. I have a 65" tv, my room is 19' x 9.5' and I'm 9-10' away. Picture is beautiful no matter what I'm watching. BD, 4K streaming or gaming. Haven't moved up to UHD yet, but it is on the horizon.

It's whatever you feel comfortable with. We have a 106 projector screen (1080p) and we sit roughly 7-8 feet from it and it looks just fine.

At 10 feet away, even Google Play movies would look good.

The picture quality would be fine at that distance, but if you know much of anything about vision then you would realize that you are basically watching pan and scan versions of a film because your field of view is terribly wrong.

Not saying it isn't fun sometimes, but your screen size to viewing distance is technically very wrong.

Why not just go to local electronics store, bring a tape measure, use tape measure to mark off 8 feet and watch a movie/ballgame on a few different sets and sizes. Select the set that looks best to you at 8 feet.

A person doesn't have to embarrass themselves in public by doing this! If a salesman see a customer with a measuring tape, measuring the viewing distance from a TV in the store, they will look perplexed as if they're saying: you can estimate the viewing distance by eyesight. A person should know how far they will be sitting away from the TV without a measuring tape. Generally people don't worry about the viewing distance when they're buying a TV. They go to the store, pick the brand, the size of screen that they want and buy it because, the customer should already have an idea. When shopping for a TV or anything else for that matter, the person should know what they're looking for before they go to the store. What's the use of shopping for anything if you don't know what you want. That will be a waste of time, and time is valuable.

Most people don't know jack about TVs nor is the average person an educated consumer.

I'm 8.5 feet away from my 65". It's a bit overkill for cable but for letterboxed movies as well as games off the PS4 Pro and XBox1, it is killer! Just go by your own feel. Everyone is different... so don't buy what the guy down the street thinks, it's YOUR TV!

If a person doesn't know what they're buying, Usually they'll have somebody with them, a spouse, significant other or a family member for their input, advice and recommendations to help them make a decision.

To answer your question, yes I can see 4K just fine. I can tell the difference between 4K, and 1080.

Those charts are not very useful IMO, as everybody sees different and human vision is not a brick wall.

I think 4K resolution is the least important thing about UHD Blu-Ray. HDR makes a far bigger impact and plainly visible at any given distance versus the SDR presentation.

That being said, I'd say 55" is small for an 8ft. viewing distance -- go 65" if you can. I'm a little under 7ft from my 65" and it's awesome.

I probably sit further back than most - about 14 feet away from a <60" (yet 1080p) and it still looks great to me. DVD and sd tv shows of course are much more forgiving as well from a distance. But with 4K I'll probably wait for a projector.

So let me get this straight. Actually going to the store and watching the TV you are thinking about buying at the distance you are going to be watching it in your house to see for sure if this is the set you want to buy is a waste of time?

Not sure why you would be embarrassed about using a tape measure either. Usually when I want to measure something, I use a tape measure. It is a pretty common tool actually.
