There is no pitch difference in HD (unless it's an 1080i title but those are few)
Tell that to all of the people who had to return the US edition of THE AVENGERS because it was pitched too high like an old PAL movie.

YES, I understand that the episodes were the proper length, and ran at the proper speed - BUT, the sound was still pitched up. Unacceptable, plain and simple.

Can you, or any of the other "no-PAL-speed-difference-anymore-in-HD" crowd, absolutely GUARANTEE that there will never be another screw-up like that?

I thought not - and I rest my case.

Use common sense and ask around Blu-ray.com forums and you will get the correct info on titles.

Did Shout mention why they left off all of the extras from the DVD? Were they not able to get the rights for them or something. Strange as they are usually pretty good about including previous extras.

I didn't mean to be rude. It's just a sore subject with me, as there is a seemingly endless parade of Euro-dusc boosters.

I watched the Timeless Media Group Blu-ray of Capricorn One this afternoon.

Capricorn One is the second of a solid 1970s paranoid conspiracy double-header after watching The Boys from Brazil last night. While revisiting this movie for the first time since seeing it on television during childhood, I thought of my late grandfather on my mother's side, because he never believed that people had really walked on the moon, and, instead, he believe that the lunar landing footage had all been an elaborate hoax. Capricorn One milks out this particular conspiracy theory that must have been somewhat common even back in 1978, and carries it to an intense finale.

I personally have no complaints about the video presentation on this Blu-ray. Capricorn One simply looks like the soft focus 1970s flick that I seem to remember it being all of those years ago, and none of the supposed technical shortcomings interfered with my enjoyment of the movie in the slightest. Everything on the audio front is A-okay, and that's a good thing for us fans of the Jerry Goldsmith score.

Do none of the Blu-rays editions of Capricorn One in any countries offer the commentary or any extras beyond the movie trailer?
Edit: I see the British Network version has a 'making of' featurette (about 7 minutes in length) and a 45 minute 'on set' featurette (which is in standard definition and probably PAL).

Lionsgate obviously didn't want or wanted too much money for their extras to be licenced out to Shout!
I was hoping both the commentary and 5.1 track would be on the US version.
Been waiting forever for a good version of this film coming out on blu, doesn't really matter what version to get now as they all seem to be from the same master.
UK has some extras but they are pathetic. (seen them on my UK Network DVD)

There seems to be a fine release of this film finally.
Unfortunately it's a German release and is i think region locked
It has all the extras that have been released before including Peter Hyams commentary.
Also it's on a dual layer disc with a healthy video bitrate.(and a steelbook for those who fancy that)
Anyway those region free can enjoy this gem.

I hope it's got a better encode than the recent UK re-release, the banding in that one is awful.

I saw those caps a week or two ago, but they don't show that early shot of the rocket in the sunrise which is the acid test for banding. Looked diabolical on Network's Blu-ray, the encode on the old ITV disc was far better.

How's the new German release when compared to the Shout release? I'll bet that it has a much better encode, but is it using a new master for that encode? I can find little to no information of any sort on the quality of the 2017 German release. Is it worth the trouble and expense of an import?

Agreed. The Exorcist had a serial killer in it. He targeted gay men in the anYC area. It's the X-Ray technician in the hospital talking to Regan.

It's a bad transfer in terms of detail, and it certainly doesn't need to be that way. You remember it as soft because you watched it on a standard definition tube TV.

The German version has noticeably better detail. I'm wondering if it is region free so I can buy it. I like everything about the current US transfer except for the lack of detail. Very disappointing.

An interesting re-release of this is coming to Japan on December 18th, 2019.

This is courtesy of King Records, who released the film in Japan in 2016 and again as a priced-down re-issue in 2018:

According to actual product images I found at the Yahoo! Japan Auctions site, this disc is a BD-25, and the only extra is a trailer.

But now that disc is being paired with a new disc that features an extended cut of the film, one which premiered in Japan in 1977 before the releases in the US and UK in 1978 and 1979, respectively.

Here is what King Records says about this extended version:

Phantom 129 minute version, the discovery of a miracle! First software! "Capricon 1" Special Edition "

This time, 129 minutes of Capricon 1 is one of the 70's leading hits featuring the political conspiracy, car chase, sky action, etc., set in the world's first manned Mars spacecraft with the prestige of America. No master has been found in Japan! The two-disc Blu-ray “Capricon 1” (Special Edition) will be released on December 18th. This is probably the first and last software that will be released in Japan.

◆ The most interesting story, car chase and sky action, a big hit in 1978! ◆
“Capricon 1” released as a New Year's movie in 1978 is planned to launch and land the world's first human-first Mars exploration ship, but the plan was canceled just before due to political reasons. A story in which astronauts who have been ordered to forge the facts and newspaper reporters who have felt a huge conspiracy escape from the power of darkness to expose the truth to the public. Overwhelming suspense depiction, spectacular car chase by Bill Hickman of "Britt" and "French Connection", the masterpiece of sky action, and above all, the young flagist Peter Hyams at the time of the age of 6 years The above is a story development that incorporates the most interesting ideas, and in the United States the release time was postponed for the convenience of the super masterpiece `` Superman '', but as a result it was an independent movie in 1978 It became the most successful work and became a hit in Japan as the 1978 New Year's movie (released at the end of 1977), ranking 8th in Western film distribution (distribution about 800 million yen).
By the way, there is also an episode that NASA, which was initially supportive, has hardened the attitude after knowing the contents of the movie and requested to stop production.

◆ First softening for 6 minutes of maboshi! First and last! 129-minute recording
”This work was released in theaters in Japan on December 10, 1977 ahead of the whole world, and the main part at that time was a version of about 129 minutes. After that, the version released worldwide in 1978 except for some UK is the main part of about 123 minutes, and since then it has been released on various media such as laser discs, VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, etc. It has been said that it is impossible to see the 129 minute version. Under such circumstances, the material of the main part of the 129-minute edition was miraculously discovered in Japan, making it possible to create and release HD masters from negatives. However, as for the stance of overseas original rights holders, the final form of “Capricon 1” is 123 minutes, and now there is no 129 minute version, so this release license is unusual. Yes, probably the first and last commercialization.
The main differences between the 129-minute version and the 123-minute version are the presence or absence of a docking scene of the spacecraft when landing on Mars, the presence or absence of a date telop, and some parts that are finely cut.
