Default When is the best time to buy a tv?

Should i get one before christmas or should i get one right after christmas, or should i wait til superbowl time? I am leaning towards a panny 50" , 800U or 85u.Thanks alot for the help. I wanna buy in store that way i can get a store credit card and make payments, instead of online and paying all at once.

If you buy in-store now, you will still have a 30 day return policy, in case the prices drop for the super-bowl sales. BTW you can also pay with credit when you purchase on-line, and on-line sometimes has better deals/prices than in local stores. Good-luck

I usually purchase online from Amazon since the savings is so significant over brick and mortar shops. I also get a 30 return with Amazon and they pay for the shipping back. But I noticed that TVs tend to be cheap leading up to Christmas and even afterwards. Pre-Super Bowl is also a good time to buy. The price difference between each time is not very much so it shouldn't matter between which time you buy. However, I find this week's Best Buy deal for the Sony KDL-52XBR6 packaged together with the BDP-S350 and setup for $2,349.97 + tax to be a great deal. I bought my 52XBR4 for $2,450 alone earlier this year and recently got the Samsung LN52A750 packaged with a BD-P1500 for $2,050 delivered,no tax. Of course, the 750 can be considered "old" now when compared to the XBR6 and you'll get your instant gratification satisfied by buying in-store.

End of the month when everyone's desperate to close out that month with a higher sales number.

Wrong. An online retailer will setup the shipping company to come pick the TV up at your house. But if you buy from a B&M you have to box that thing back up and haul it back there yourself, oh yeah and once it's been repaired/replaced you also have to drive the thing home again.

Definitely check out that Best Buy XBR6 deal if that's within your budget, it just seems to me a good deal considering what I paid for my XBR4 in January. You get what is basically Sony's 2nd best TV in their lineup now.

I agree with killat0n, although I can't say every online shop will offer a great return service, I know Amazon does. Just call it in and they set everything up for you in terms of pickup and no charges so long as their is a problem with the TV and not you saying you didn't like it. I rarely shop rarely shop at B&M stores now electronics unless there is a super deal. Even with Circuit City's closing down and offering up to 40%, it still only matches Amazon's prices for some items.

The best time to buy a TV is when you have saved money and negotiate with CASH to get an awesome deal! A "no interest" plan is better than one with interest, but even then, after a year, you'll probably still owe an amount that would buy you a newer, better and perhaps larger TV.

I just remembered, sometimes Amazon does offer no interest for 2 years if you sign up with their Visa card. Call them and see if they still have that offer going.

Absolutely! By the time you have the tv paid off everyone will be using OLED tv's.

The best time to buy a new HDTV is when the store is open...

Seriously though, before Christmas. After Christmas the prices go back up because people will have gift-cards to spend and won't worry so much about sales.

i worked at an electronics retailer for over 3 years.

After Christmas is a good time. Retailers will be getting hammered this year. Another good time is when stores are trying to get rid of their current inventory to make room for the next models. TVs only get cheaper over time though, so it just depends how patient you are.

I just ordered a Panny 50 inch 800U, should be here Saturday. I got a killer deal, $1770.00 shipping included from amazon. I think now is the best time to buy, or before xmas due to the economy sucking and the competitiveness of the companies trying to sell for the holidays...

There's no time like the present!!!

With the economy doing its thing, it is a great time to buy as store are trying to keep the revenue meter from plummeting. This is always a short term phenomenon though. The aftermath is that inflation becomes a serious B!TCH. Retailers are selling stuff like crazy at sale prices just to keep up right now. Take advantage before the New Year rears its ugly head.

I'm hitting my 4th year and i find that Super Bowl t.v. sales are better than Pre-Xmas sales. Just my experience where i work tho.
