Default Tell me what to do, tell me what to buy

I have a Sony Bravia, I have a ps3. The PQ is insanely good, absolutely loving it.

I also bought the optical cable for ps3, which from my understanding is to hook straight into speakers (is that right?)

I am prepared to spend about $1500 on a speaker set up, and my question is twofold:

1. For $1500, what speaker set up would you recommend?

2. How should I set it up to take full advantage of BR? Should the optical go straight from ps3 to the speakers? And if so, does that mean the speakers won't work when I'm just watching television? Help! Oh, and should I even bother with optical? Argh!

p.s. great forum here btw, been reading for a couple of months now - in Australia we have a very poor selection of BR's so I've been importing from the states (and even then there's only so many region-free br's!) and this place has been a huge help in deciding what to get.

Please check this thread for info by others and myself on what speakers you should get.

Audio cannot go straight to the speakers. You are going to need to get yourself a receiver to take in these audio signals (from PS3, 360, DVD player or whatever) and then from there it goes to your speakers.

And most all receivers nowadays can take in various audio signals. So you can use it to output audio to your speakers from your TV, or most all other audio devices.

I definitely recommend looking at the B&W speaker line. They have a full range of speaker products that will fit your budget. You will not be sorry.

Nah I factored the exchange rate in, I'm talking 1500 American (i.e. about 1800 Aussie)

I have always found that it is best to buy speakers shortly after the manufacturer offers a new line or model number. The "older" models are typically discounted well below retail price fo what they were originally. Typically a speaker that is one model year off doesn't offer any dramatic differences from the new line. Just remember speakers are one of the highest markups of any consumer electronics components, behind car audio.
