Default Dead in 3 Days Part 2 (2008)

Cheers fanatics,

A quick review for one of the most atmospheric and underrated horror sequels I've seen over the last decade. It's not your typical follow-up with more of the same, "Dead in 3 Days 2" is practically a new film and deals with PTSD more than anything.

After the horrific events of part 1 (your typical teenie-slasher fair - not in a bad way though) Nina still has a hard time dealing with the past and after receiving a distressed phone-call from one of her friends she starts looking for her just to arrive in the hands of a demented backwoods (or here alpine) family.

To me it reminded me very much of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The film oozes atmosphere and you can not get more isolated here in Austria than on the mountaintops. It also has some nice practical effects and doesn't hold back on the violence.

The German/Austrian Blu-Ray (available on amazon.de) has optional English subtitles - so if you're into that sort of thing, it comes highly recommended from my side.

I LOVE the first film. It's one of my very favorite slashers. So bleak and brutal. I've been waiting ages to see this sequel, because it has yet to be released in the U.S. in any form. Is the Blu-ray region free??

This very site lists a combo pack of both films having been released to Blu in 2010, but I can't find any trace of it anywhere else on the net. Would love to scoop that up if it actually exists and is region free.

Yes, the Blu is Region-Free. I also never seen the combo-pack .... but both BDs are pretty cheap right now ... 9,99 a pop.

Nice to hear, but I'm not actually seeing a standalone Blu-ray edition of the first film available for purchase anywhere either. I have that one on U.S. DVD, but would be happy to chuck it in favor of a Blu upgrade to go with the second film.

Yeah, I saw, and loved, the first one when Dimension EXTREME originally distributed it here in the US. Didn't even realize there was a sequel until a couple years after it was made when I randomly saw the trailer with Soap&Skin (who I love) playing over it. It just never got picked up in the US for whatever reason.
