Hi all,
I currently have the Optoma H27 projector native 480p and my blurays looks awesome... I recently came across a deal for a Optoma HD65 720p projector and was wondering if it was worth the upgrade? I have read allot of posts on avs forums and people are saying 720p when compared to 1080p isn't much difference and not worth the money (i was suprised to read that) since i thought 1080p would be night/day over 720p...Anyway,,, will i see a big improvement over my current 480p? my current projector accepts 720p/1080i and downconoverts but looks good Just thinking of the current economy and if its really worth it Last edited by perfectdark; 12-20-2008 at 02:09 AM. |

It really depends on the size of the screen you have. I have a 42" LCD flat panel and it is 1080p, but I can't really see the difference between the 720p and 1080p setting. However, I have a friend who has a 62" flat panel and I can see the difference between 720p and 1080p on his TV.

I have a 115" projector running at 720p/1080i now. The difference is HUGE. If you get the new Optoma you wont know what to do with yourself. You will wonder how you did it for so long. If I watch a SD DVD it goes back to 480p and I feel like I am being punished.

720p to 1080p difference is HUGE if you have a LCD System. Not only the grid is virtually insivible, but colors are better (since the dot are closer). Of course if you sit at 20 feet from a 92' inch screen you might not see it but for anything between 10 and 15 feet from a 100+ inch screen it's pretty much in you're face..

so i picked up the Optoma HD65 720p projector and it looks great. Anyone have some good picture settings for it?
Only problem with this projector is the throw is bad, really bad. I mounted it with my same universal ceiling mount and in the same place as my old one (because thats where i've customer cut the ceiling etc..) and the image is too big even on smallest zoom.... have to do some more cutting and patching to move the thing closer |
