Default Recommend an amp

Looking for an integrated amp for my setup in my sig. I love my Onkyo but it just lacks for my new vinyl setup.

Had my eyes on an Arcam A38 but don't think I can pony up the 2k. Any suggestions for around the 1k mark?

Looking to run my Onkyo as a pre amp for the L and R channels for HT and run my turntable gear into a line input.

Thx!

This is going to stretch your budget a bit, but if you can win this auction it will mean you have one of the finest integrated amps ever made, and it comes with an incredible internal tube phono stage that can't be beat unless you spend thousand$ more.

The Avatar was my first tube amp. It is an incredible design, with an open, detailed sound that will blow your mind and make you want to listen to music 24 hours a day. Since it uses EL34 tubes, you can run it in triode mode which in my opinion sounded even better than ultralinear (pentode) mode although you do give up some power. Don't worry, though. Even in triode mode the Avatar can drive any reasonably sensitive speaker to wall-crumbling levels without clipping.

My recommendation is to beg, borrow or steal what you need to get this amp and win the auction.

An integrated amp is basically a receiver without the tuner built in. Just an amp and preamp in one chassis.

I've got your three fronts. Well, the slightly older Silver 6's, and the Onkyo 705. I run the left and right with a B&K Reference 2200 (two channel, 200 watts) I got second hand, taking advantage of the 705's preouts. The B&K is built like a tank but is as sweet as Tupulo honey.

I think their ST-2140 can be had new for under $700. It is not their Reference line but I'm sure it is excellent. It is two channels at 140 watts per.
You might check to see if the make an intergrated amp in your price range.

If you're at all considering an Integrated amp, I would consider the SimAudio MOON i-1. The list says $1,500CDN, but it can be had for about $1,100 CDN.

No, those "lightbulb looking things" are tubes, and they are most definitely not on all receivers as they have mostly been replaced by transistors in modern electronics.

From vac-amps.com:

Quote:
The amplifying vacuum tube is now approximately 90 years of age. Semiconductors have taken over in most standard electronics applications. As a result, many Americans no longer understand what a tube is, how it behaves, or how to maintain tube electronics.

What is a Vacuum Tube?
The tube is basically an electronic valve that controls the flow of electrons. It consists of an envelope (bulb, usually glass) from which most air and other gasses have been removed. Inside this near vacuum are two systems. One is called the heater. This is in the center of the tube and is the portion you will normally see glowing orange (some tubes may have more than one heater). The other system consists of the cathode, grid(s), and plate (also called the anode). The plate is the largest metal structure you see inside the bulb. All of this is held to correct locations by thin disc spacers made of mica or ceramic.

Check Pacific Valve. They have a good selection of Solid State and Vacuum Tube amplifiers.
