Best film I've seen so far this year. Amazing performances from Gyllenhaal, Maslany and Miranda Richardson. A really great portrait of a working class family - reminds me quite a bit of THE FIGHTER. Lots of humor, which I was surprised by. And also grabbed me emotionally in a way I wasn't expecting, found myself fighting back tears multiple times. David Gordon Green subtly but confidently directs the hell out of it. The scene where

[Show spoiler]Jake first has his bandages taken off, and the ENTIRE scene is played in a single shot, on his face, with the hands of the doctors reaching in from offscreen, and Maslany leaning into frame at the end,

is the most brilliantly conceived scene I've seen all year. Stunningly simple but enormously effective, just like the rest of this phenomenal film.

Yeah, one of my faves of the year. At $14.99 I had to preorder. It flew too under the radar when it hit theaters, but I'm hoping it won't be forgotten when awards season kicks into high gear. At least for Gyllenhaal's and Maslany's fantastic and moving performances.

They pretty much are since they're based on the same tragedy. Just consider it a bit of a cock-eyed universe.

I know, but I was more specifically referring to the fictional movie versions of these events.

I worked two days an extra for this movie (two different scenes). I didn't see myself in the movie but hoping they have some good bonus features.

As for the movie, good movie but I think it's a one time view for me.

Acting performance were great, though, and I'd be shocked if they didn't at least warrant an Oscar invitation.

Just saw Stronger. Superb film, with amazing performances from everyone. JG deserves an Oscar nomination for his role here - incredible. Also, being a big fan of Orphan Black it was nice to see TM in a solid role here as well. MR was fantastic also - she definitely disappeared into her role as a MA native, despite being from the UK.

I was hesitant to see the movie at first because I knew it would make me angry re: the two scum-bags who caused this horror against innocent civilians. Thankfully, one of them is dead and the other is one death row.
