Default Babylon5 On Blu-ray?

As a huge B5 fan, i was wondering if anyone has heard on the grapevine that Babylon5 will be released on blu-ray in the future?

I have no clue. I have B5 on DVD and I've seen it on my HDTV. It's in 16:9. With a bit of cleaning up, it would be an awesome transfer to BD.

I'M a big B5 fan as well, but don't hold your breath for blueray version. the liveaction could be rescan to HD since it's all done on film, but FX were all done in SD, so they would just be scaled, or completely redone to HD, wich would be WAY to expensive today.

The live action was already scanned in HD for the widescreen Sci-Fi airings. How good those masters are in HD is up in the air.

Babylon 5 sold very well for WB, I would expect that so long as the masters don't suck it's something they're looking at for the future

I also have this concern with B5 coming to BD. I love my DVD copies however so I am set for now but I won't be waiting for the BD version anytime soon.

I wouldn't hold your breath. A lot of models were updated for HD for the "Lost Tales". All of those FX were done in HD, but it was only released on XBlive as an hd download. The cost of re-creating all of the cgi(since most before season 4 is lost and some of seasons 4&5 is also lost) would be extremely high. They couldn't just replace low res models with high res models because all of the animation files are gone. I would be shocked to see WB put up the cash to redo all of the cgi.

I would pay an arm and leg when this comes out. One of the best sci-fi tv series ever to come out. Everything is so intricately intertwined throughout the series.

On the top of my list for blu-rays along with Red-dwarf.

I too, would love to see this series in Hi-Def glory, but unless WB decides to spend the same amount of cash (most likely more) than Paramount has done restoring the original Star Trek Series, then it looks like we might not get it. Which is a real shame, since JMS clearly had the right mind to shoot in wide way back when folks balked at the idea of 16:9 content for TV. Shame that all the original files were lost though. What a bonehead maneuver that was!

Still, one can hold out for hope that WB does decide to put in some $$$ to work on updates effects. The major problem here though, isn't working on shots that are 100% effects based, but those that are a mix of live action/CGI content. Those would be plain murder for whoever works on them.

As much as I love B5, I don't think this will happen. WB has never really seen what they had in B5 or respected it that much, so they won't invest in redoing FX for HD. And it'd have to be a total redo-- which would be a much larger job than classic Trek because that had very few FX shots per show. B5 had tons. No, sadly I don't think it'll ever happen. If it did, they'd just take what they had and the FX and composite shots would look awful.

Remember, we're talking WB here. They won't even put decent audio on a recent release, which would be like zero effort for them. Why would they bother with that kind of investment? Sad, but the truth. The DVDs will have to suffice, I'm afraid.
