Been meaning to check this out at the cinema the past couple of weeks. Iannucci is one of my comedy heroes, along with Palin and Whitehouse, so this is definitely my kinda comedy. I will also watch anything with Steve Buscemi in, even if it's bad, so I don't know why I'm slacking really (just been busy tbh).

Does anyone know if this comes with a slipcase? I ordered it from amazon uk and it didn’t have one. Thanks.
Edit. I looked at eBay and there are some slips with hmv stickers on them so I guess at least hmv have them. Last edited by Chevron; 03-26-2018 at 09:36 PM. |

Okay, I just finished watching my copy of The Death of Stalin. I just have one word for this film: brilliant!
I had hopes for this, but I have to say this film far exceeded my expectations. A funny and bleak film, covering the power vacuum created in the Politboro and security forces by the sudden unexpected death of Stalin, this film has some of the wittiest dialogue it's been my pleasure to experience. With amazing sets, intricate framing and tracking shots, and boasting a group of over a dozen main characters, it is filled to the brim with actions, comments, and asides that are so frequent they can be easy to miss. It helped immensely for my enjoyment of the film to enable the subtitle option. With a dream cast, anchored by a completely engaging performance by Steve Buscemi who is great as, of all people, Nikita Khrushchev. Other standouts in a truly talented group are: Simon Russell Beale as the slippery, scheming and sadistic head of the NKVD, Lavrenti Beria; Jeffrey Tambor as the cadaverous Georgy Malenkov; a hilariously addled performance by Rupert Friend as Stalin's crazy, alcoholic and spoiled son, Vasily; and, my favorite: a strutting, jack booted bull of a performance by Jason Isaacs as the great Russian war hero, Field Marshall Zhukov. All of this is brought together by the director, Armando Iannucci, who I was previously unaware of but seems to be someone well worth following in the future. Boy, if you love intelligent, fast paced films and like your humor bleak and sharp as a knife, you'll want to check this one out. Best new film for me this year, and, no doubt, this one is a stone cold classic. |

Opening scene was very promising but the whole thing degenerated into really badly scripted "comedy".
I thought the British were famed for their subtle humour. I've seen lots of American "dumb" comedies that made me laugh more than this. Pacing was horrible. It felt like a TV series edited down in length to sell as a feature film. Didn't help that the cinematography was TV level, too. The Americans in the movie were embarrassingly bad. Buscemi can only play Buscemi. Tambor made me think this was an episode of Arrested Development (it had that kind of odd pacing that may work on TV but not cinema). And Mr Beale must be the most overrated British actor in history. |

Would this blu-ray work on a US PS4? For some reason it doesn't seem like the film is getting released on anything other than DVD in the US, and I'd much rather get the blu-ray if possible.
Thanks! |

Does the UK BD include the commentary that was a bonus with the UK iTunes version?
I'm in the US, where we didn't get a BD at all, just a DVD with a making-of and deleted scenes, which I didn't buy. I'm considering buying the UK BD. |
