Default Using an old subwoofer on a new reciever

I just looked at the Bestbuy boxing day flyer, and am thinking about getting the VSX-1018 Reciever for $400. I currently have a HTIB set from Sony and the subwoofer has old style speaker cable on it. Is it possible to set up a temporary setup with this sub until I can afford a new one with RCA?

You'd have to run the front connections from the receiver to the sub and then run the fronts from the sub. You'd then put the receiver on "full band" and let the sub handle crossover duty. Not exactly optimal but I believe it'd work fine.

I think I understand what your saying, but this sub is not very good and Im not sure it would do that. Its a cheap sony sub that came with a HTIB system, all it has on the back is 2 speaker wires coming out the back of it. No speaker clips or anything.

Not worth it...don't do it. It's a passive, unpowered sub, and probaby won't take more than 50 or 50 watts before it fries under the power of the Pioneer.

You might want to take a look at the subwoofer threads, there's lots of info on inexpensive subs that deliver terrific sound.
