Death Race freeze up... - Blu-ray Forum

I picked upp Death Race sunday at Block buster ( bought it ) any ways I was watching it last night and at 25 min. in to the movie it Froze up . This has been a problem with all Universial Blu-rays, latly ,, anyone else ..I have the Marantz BD-8002 Blu-ray playerm this is a $2000.00 player and this is happening alot , sent Marantz an E-mail about it also . Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue.. lmk thanks

I posted about this same issue two days ago. Mine froze up at an hour and five minutes into the movie and then reset back to the begining. I went through every effort to get it to work, but no luck. I was playing it on my dads sony 300 player and so I thought I would try it on my ps3. Same thing, froze up. I emailed universal. They wrote me back, saying at first that it might be the firmware. I always have the latest firmware update on my players. So then they said to give them my address and that they would send me a postage paid envelope in which to return my bad disc. I then have to tell them what the problem is, the time in the movie where the glitch is and what player I have. I know its not the player, cuz it doesn't work on any of my systems. I think that universal knows that they have problems, but that don't want people to know about it. So there are others that are having the same problems.

hey guys, i have the same problem as soon as stage two of the race begin i loose sound, the image froze up and suddenly i'm back at the beginning of the movie. 1stang08 is right that problem goes way behind just a firmware update, we have some bad disc out there. so be careful guys.

I think I have a different problem. I paused the movie while watching a second time and it went to the screen saver after awhile and I couldn't go any further. Needed to restart the movie and jump to correct chapter.

My pic went all screwy during the special feature where you create your own race (which was really bad actually, because there is about a 2 second blackout between every cut you make). Anyway, pic broke up and restarted. It's really heavy on the player. I'm thinking Universal bit off more than they could chew here.

I played the movie and paid close attention when it got to the 105 minute mark, and it was perfect. Played in my PS3, but will try it in my Sammy 1400 just to see.

I like when they blame the BD. It's not the BD kiddies.

Worked fine here (in the PS3).

Also, I thought the creating your own scene from the different angles was pretty interesting although I haven't produced anything I'm happy with yet. (probably because I kept changing angles every 5 seconds).

Well it is the BD. We all have different players and its not playing right on any of them. I have two players. A Sony Ps3 and a Sony 300. They both have the up to date firmware. Im not saying that all the BDs of Deathrace are bad. But that maybe there was a run of them that was. I did contact Universal and they want me to send back the BD and they are going to send me a new one. I would say that if you have a bad BD, contact Universal to get a new one.

Same problem. As soon as stage 2 starts the movie freezes up. This problem is definetly not with the player, but with some bad discs getting out. Just hoping I don't have to exchange it a million times to get a good one.

That's normal. To get out of the Universal screen saver, hit a directional button (up, down, left, right).

I just watched the Unrated cut on my PS3, and paid special attention at 1:05, but I did not experience any problems. Not saying a problem doesn't exist, just that I didn't experience one with my copy. Best of luck.

sounds like a firmware is needed.
i have a sony bdp s-350 and never had a issue with any universal title or any other studio for that matter.good luck,hope you solve this issue.

i got to ask,what the hell is that player made of? 2 grand on bd player,i hope it cooks and cleans for you wow!

well my son also played it on his PS3 and it would not give play the audio either. had to shut it all down and start over got the audio to work but the movie froze up three times on his PS3.. so really its not the BD. confused.

its made of the special things LOL, Its Marantz , high end , always been a fan they make some of the best audio/video EQ. and the best warranty .

Well I just exchanged my bad disc for another copy and the new copy works perfectly. I emailed universal and they are aware that a percentage of them that shipped are faulty and are willing to replace them with working copies.

I just went to Universal's Website and went to the contact us section. I gave a description of the problem I was having with the death race blu-ray disc.

How long did it take for you to get a response/replacement disc?

Mine did this, I thought the disc was dirty. Cleaned it restarted and it played fine on my PS3. I wonder if I watch it again if I'll have the issue again. Where did you contact Universal at?
