Default iSuppli - PS3 costs ~ $450 to build, loses $50 per sale...

http://www.businessweek.com/techno...+temp_technology

It's actually a bit wrong, they have overestimated the cost of Blu-ray by about $35...

Otherwise they hit it pretty much on the nail, but then again I have been telling you guys this for quite a while now...

iSuppli is incredibly bad, and honestly their estimates are not any better or worse than most others....the only reason I give this any kind of credibility is because of max's confirmation.

Heh, sorry, that's in my version!

About the accuracy of the figures, yeah, they aren't great, but they are the best the public is going to get.

I think their teardown will come out in Jan sometime, and people will see the mistakes they have made, but by and large they have got the actual build cost okay. Not great, but just okay.

The problem with the BD drive pricing they used (from what I can tell) is that they have been quoted the price for either a 5x ROM drive or a 4x R/RE drive. Neither of these are in the PS3, it has a very basic 2x ROM drive which is much, much cheaper to produce as the optics can have much higher tolerance to errors.

So they only lose $15 per sale then Max? Well that's not very much at all!

I'm about to recover the loss of one PS3 for Sony today with my LBP MGS DLC purchase!!!

The other problem with all of this is that Sony's BoM is going to be in Yen. So pricing it up in USD was stupid. All of our (much more accurate) estimates are priced up in JPY...

If the yen wasn't so strong, I think a price cut would've happened already.

NeoGAF is such a pain to read. Like, it actually pisses me off just reading about anything there, so I never post, despite having an account.

Really?

I find it quite funny watching the retards go back and forth, and the fanboy tears are always funny when the Wii sells well every month!

Plus the official threads are untouchable. I mean have you seen the Resistance 2 thread! BruceLeeRoy is the grandmaster. How about MGS4!

I hate watching fanboys argue, it's so annoying.

That's why I try to stay on sites with more one sided populations, or perhaps more mature users when I want serious conversation (opposite of GameFAQS).

Here, we don't get much talk about the Wii and 360, but that's fine with me because it also limits the fanboy arguing.

I think it's more funny when it happens on more lax forums, where profanity is generally allowed because then you get to see them fling around personal insults and just straight trolling up threads, but on GAF, everyone thinks he's an intellectual, and I find it most annoying when dumb people try to act that way and when regular people act like having an account there means they have insider connections with the industry and stuff.

I can only imagine how big the Killzone 2 Official Thread will be....the Nov/Dec media unveiling was already at 9k posts earlier this month.

I thought Sony would be breaking out even, or making some money from the PS3 by now. I guess now we know why they wont lower the price. Not that i think they need to, with the most advance console out there you got to pay to play baby

I thought the costs were down to $400 back in January. I remember reading an article about that earlier this year.

Factoring in the 65nm RSX, and the coming 45nm Cell, the costs should have been even lower. Was I wrong?
