Have you looked at your disk?

I recently watched "The Debt", and it tried skipping 5 minutes past a part, and no matter how many times I tried to correct it, the disk skipped past; so I ejected the disk and looked at the disk (it was brand new, from package to PS3). It had some residue on it, possibly from pressing, so I cleaned it. It worked perfectly after this.

I just checked and the disc couldn't look more perfect.

My first copy of this also gave me some player issues on my Pioneer, so I had it exchanged for another copy, and it played fine.

So I guess you should try that. In several thousands copies pressed, there is bound to be some lemons, it just happens.

That sucks! Looks like you may have to exchange it.

Thanks for the help, guys. I will exchange it and hopefully that fixes the problem.

Edit: I got the new disc and it played perfectly. The disc was the problem. Thanks for all the help!

Amazon has the combo Part 1 & 2 (288 total minutes) for only $8.99. It is showing as "currently unavailable" but if it pops up again at that price, pick it up, that is a steal of a price.

Does anyone have this version ? Are the subtitles burnt in in French or can you choose French or English ? http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B003439LTQ?_...I1YEX46C4ZOPUX

EDIT: Nevermind, I ordered the international version through a 3rd party.

I'm sure someone has mentioned this already, but in case no one has, my blu ray player is saying that the 2 disc set is 1080i, not 1080p. Bl-Ray.com is listing it as 1080p. <--I guess i must be confused with this as it actually says 1080/60i.

As for the movie itself, it is very good except for the cartoonish out of place Lady Sun character (played by the female star of Shaolin Soccer) who pops up in various places during the movie fighting battles, going on secret spy missions into enemy territory etc, ridiculous! That simply never happened not could it ever have happened. It's like if Elmer Fudd showed up in Ben Hur. Or Roger Rabbit in, well, never mind that one.

Otherwise, very good cinematography and acting in the movie. Interesting to see Dragon from Ping Pong in a role as one of the generals (or sergeant or whatever he was). Of course China from Ping Pong had a small role in Wicked City recently too.

As for Shaolin Soccer, as good as Kung Fu Hustle was, I like SS better

The full international version is on VUDU for $13.99, the physical is a little cheaper at 13.xx so I'm going to go with that since it has the long documentary.

I tried watching the US version on Netflix, but I hated the voiceover.

So hopefully I like it since I almost never blind buy.

I picked up the full international edition spread across 2 BD releases way back when Blockbuster video was practically giving them away many years ago. It's all sorts of long but is a film I enjoy re-visiting every so often. I can say that I've watched the full epic probably as many times as I have The Lord of the Rings films.

Not that I've heard, and I am not sure it's terribly likely to happen either unfortunately. Sure hope I am wrong though. This was one of the great epic film(s) of its time.

There were a number of two-part historical movies made around this time, which is interesting. Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale is probably not as remembered but also worth the time. Che is probably better known being a Soderbergh title.

Hadn’t heard of Warriors of the Rainbow! Thanks for mentioning it!

Another one to mention. Gangs of Wasseypur came out a year after Che. I love it and would mention it with Red Cliff and Che.

Wasseypur has escaped me and I've never gotten around to it. Sadly I think the US Blu-ray is out of print now.

Regarding WotR, definitely pick it up on Blu-ray; I think it's still readily available. At least at the time it came out (2011), it was the most expensive Taiwanese film made. Now that doesn't make it "good", but gives you an idea of the scale of the production and its ambition.

Like Red Cliff, make sure you get the the two-part, full-length story. At 4.5 hours it's a lot of story, but a powerful account of history. There's a US cut released as one movie which slices something like two hours off the runtime. Might make it fun to have for a comparison sometime (I have both cuts to feel complete yet haven't watched the US cut ), but I would be shocked if anyone thought it was actually the better experience. Well Go USA labels the original, full-length version as the "International Cut".

Let us know what you think if you get it!

Yeah unfortunately Wasseypur is out of print, but if you come across a copy pick it up!

A copy of the 2 part version of WotR and I’ll definitely pick it up sooner rather than later!

I have the average video bitrates from Disc 1 and Disc 2. Should I put a comma between them and supply into the edit movie video bitrate field?

I know a lot of people here obviously got the extended cut, but I got the western theatrical version and I’m planning to get the extended cut as well, just because I want to own both cuts of the film. Am I alone on this?

Ok. I bought the Blu of Wasseypur years ago, so I don’t have to worry about it. Also saw it in theaters.
