Default Movies that surprised you in 2008

Juno - finally watched it, didn't want to because of the trying-to-hard dialogue. luckily it mellows out after the first few scenes and I ended up loving the movie =]. (yay cera and bateman!)

Phoebe In Wonderland - thought it'd be alright but it blew me away. elle phanning is someone to watch.

Twilight - i had low expectations and it was so much worse than I expected (I like the books, just not the movie)

- Speed Racer (Looked terrible , was actually a fun popcorn flick)
- The Kingdom (I'm not usually into these films but Kingdom was amazing)
- Be Kind Rewind

A few movies that I thought would be great that turned out to be really disappointing
- Jumper
- Mummy 3
- The Bank Job

I have to say Iron Man. I'm not a big RD Jr fan and I didn't think it would be as good as it was.

Iron Man by a longshot, I heard it was good. But, until actually seeing it in the theaters, had no idea it would be THAT good.

I was really impressed with Speed Racer after watching it, I had low expectations, but turned out good. As well Mummy 3, I thought it was pretty good, not as good as the first 2, but not terrible like all the reviews I read about it.

Disappointment:

Biggest Disappointment was The Happening. The trailers looked AMAZING. I thought "ok, his last 2 or 3 flicks have been so-so, but this looks damn good!" I was fooled! Worst movie I saw in 2008 by far

Then you must have not seen Meet The Spartans . It was painfully awful.

Side Note: Another surprise for me this year was Charlie Barlett. I hope it comes to Blu soon.

The Incredible Hulk. I've never liked anything to do with the Hulk and that it wouldn't appeal to me, but It was actually a really great movie. Glad to own the "Green"-ray.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I thought this movie was going to suck hard, but turned out to be one of the funniest movies I saw this year.

Role Models. Same as above.

I was pretty surprised at how bad Eagle Eye was. The previews looks excellent. I was also surprised how GOOD Iron Man was. I really didn't give much hope for it, simply because of RD Jr. I was wrong.

Cloverfield - I wasn't feeling the whole camera perspective story-telling concept, the marketing for the movie wasn't helping either. But curiosity got the best of me, and I ended up watching. It turns out, that it's in my top 10 favorite movies of all time.

I thought the trailer for Iron Man was a stinker but when I went to see it- Wow, great movie so that one ranks as the biggest surprise.

Also- Igor. I thought this animated flick would be awful but it was actually pretty good. I mean it is no way near Pixar quality but when you have zero expectations and it is a decent flick than thats a surprise.

In Bruges - thought it would be alright but it was GREAT
The Incredible Hulk - Ed Norton in hulk lol but it was really awesome the 2nd best superhero movie of the year
Cloverfield - thought it'd be a crappy movie like a godzilla wannabe but it was good

Iron Man - had no expectations going in but it was really good when i watched it in cinemas but when i got it on blu it was back to bad specially that terrible 3rd act RDJ was gr8 though
Hellboy 2 the s***house army - thought it'll be good after looking at the IMDb ratings and even got free passes to watch it but it was the most BORING movie of the year cheesy dialogues bad acting worse storyline tried to be funny but it was BAD the only thing that kept me in for the whole movie was to watch the villian which after the 1st few scenes there wasnt alot
