Germany Ulysses (1954) (February 2018)

https://www.amazon.de/Die-Fahrten-Odysseus-Ulysses-Blu-ray/dp/B0778YCTFF/

Google translate from amazon:
Quote:
The original negative was restored very elaborately in 2017 to preserve the opulent history film in unprecedented quality. In addition to the theatrical version, this edition contains extensive bonus material and as a special extra that was discarded before its publication in 1955,
extended version on an additional DVD.
In 1954, the negative with the original version (running time: approx. 109 min.) Was cut to a running time of approx. 100 min. The original version only exists on an old cinema copy (35 mm).
The original negative with the cut version (about 100 min. Running time) was resampled in brilliant 4K resolution.
The present double-DVD edition contains both this resampled short version of the film, as well as one about the scenes of the old 35-mm movie (not re-sampled) extended long version.

The double DVD contains both versions of the film classic:
DVD 1: Main movie - resampled from the negative of the short version (running time approx. 100 min.)
DVD 2: Main movie - resampled by the negative of the short version, extended by the cut out scenes (running time approx. 109 min.)
I take it "resampled" means "restored".
So Disc 1 will have the restored film from a 4K scan of the negative.
Disc 2 will have the restored film + inserted scenes from a 35mm print.

"Colosseo brings this title finally out on Blu-ray with English, German and Italian soundtracks and German and English subtitles. Both, Al!ve and Colosseo do not understand why Amazon does not state the complete technical details. It is a great damage for us because no one knows which languages they will get. Anyway, have a great time watching the film, once you get it."

Really looking forward to seeing both cuts! As I have great memories of watching this as a kid back in the 70's.
Kirk Douglas's chin used to fascinate me and I always had a soft spot for the Cyclops... Being a hungry, one-eyed giant who doesn't get out much would make anyone cranky. So if he had to eat a few of the crew, I was okay with that... I think at one stage he was trying to smash the ship with boulders too... Classic Cyclops...

Bring on the 23rd of February!

Excellent. Barring a US/UK announcement, I will definitely be getting a copy. I have always wanted to see this. It looks like it was remastered from the Italian source materials, and there are a whopping fifty screencaps that appear to be from the remaster and a back cover image on Amazon.de, It looks like the aspect ratio will be 1.37:1, the bonus disc and alternate version will be on a DVD, and that the credits are in Italian, not English and not German:

[Show spoiler]

Note that the English audio track is quite awful. Tinny & thin - maybe they took it from a 16mm print? Italian is much better.
