A lot of video games based off of films have a tendency to turn out terrible and especially back in the day of retro consoles like the NES, Super NES, Genesis, etc. (not sure how many here remember those). What are the ones that stand out as being especially awful?
Total Recall for the NES and Cliffhanger for the Genesis both come to mind right away. Both have similar issues with overly cheap and steep difficulty that makes them too hard to be fun, poor controls and collision detection, cheap enemies, bad jumping mechanics and weaponry that's too far and few in-between and just not powerful or effective enough. Both games caused me immense frustration back in the day for me. Batman Forever for the SNES was another terrible one, largely for similar reasons. The control scheme just ruined it and combine that with being overly cheap and unfair with the difficulty and enemies, it was practically unplayable. I've never played the E.T. Atari game but I'd imagine that'll be a popular choice for this, it's infamously bad and often considered one of the worst video games ever. It was so bad it nearly destroyed the video game industry in the early 80s and numerous copies got returned, where they were buried in a New Mexico landfill and unearthed decades later. Just look it up if you don't believe me. Going by the images and footage I've seen of it, this is one game I'm very happy I never played. Also never played it, but seeing the footage of the Rambo arcade game, yikes. I'm a big Rambo fan and I don't think I'd play this thing even for free. |

I had Beowulf for the PS3. Made it past the few couple of levels or so, but ultimately gave up on account of how clunky, glitchy, and low-quality everything felt.
Played through all of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for the PS3. It felt like such a chore though. Wasn't bad technically, just tedious. Back in 2003 or so, I bought into the big Matrix sequel hype and played Enter the Matrix to the end. On a good PC, I really enjoyed it, despite one or two glitches. On a bad PC, it was practically unplayable. I still have it, but haven't touched it in years. Not sure if it would work on a new PC, and I doubt the gameplay holds up. |

I think the worst I ever played was Back to the Future for the NES. I hounded my mom for weeks to buy it for me, and then when she finally did and I got to play it, I was like "This sucks!" Haha!
I never knew just how disliked the Atari E.T. game was until after I started using the Internet in the late-90s. It had actually always been one of my favorites as a kid and was one of the few games at the time I could consistently beat. |

I never played the BTTF NES game but it looks terrible from the footage of it I've seen. I don't think that was actually based on any of the films though, think it was more based on the animated 90s series. But the footage I've seen of it, yikes. Looks awful. |

As lame as ET was, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK for Atari was even worse.

RoboCop 3 for the Genesis (and SNES, same game) was another horrible one. Only fitting with how terrible the movie was that the game was also awful. I remember it having bad controls and being too difficult.

That wasn’t based on any of the films, it was based on the animated TV show.
Oh it is. I still remember playing it as a kid and not understanding what I was suppose to be doing. |

I remember seeing the review of it on GameSpot TV (I feel old remembering that). That tore it apart with no mercy. The review might be on YouTube somewhere.

The SNES is all that and the soundtrack is grating too. I felt bad for my parents because they paid full price for it (it was a birthday gift).

The same with my mother when she got me Cliffhanger back in the day. Ten seconds of joy when I got it, hours of agony when I started playing it. Terrible when you end up wasting money on a bad game like that.
