If this is your first system congratulations!! For your setup it will sound a lot better than what your use to now which is nothing. Dont let any haters bad mouth your system. We could always have something better. That is why it is a work in progress for about 95% of us. I started the same way with a 5.1 setup from Aiwa that I got from Best Buy. If you live at home then start to figure out the best setup for your room that you will be listening in. I have attached a link that will help you with speaker placement etc.
http://www.dolby.com/consumer/home_e...omlayout2.html

This should help you to get the best sound out of your system. Post some pics if you need help and we might be able to assist with arrangements if the room is not ideal. Best of luck and Merry Christmas!!

Where would that be in the settings?

Sorry for the camera pics. I'm getting stands for the speakers next week, so this is temporary for the front speakers.

Thanks for the pics. Word of advice, Dont stack your components like that, they will have no room to breathe and they will overheat. Start to rearrange some of the things on your stand and move your components around.

The side surrounds should be about 3ft above your ears when listening. Start to think if that will be from you laying down, since it looks like your bed is in the center or if you will be sitting up to listen. Not a huge deal, but you want the most bang for your buck.

Yeah, I like it. I was wondering if the sound is working right, for Casino Royale it said Dolby HD or w/e.. but for The Dark Knight it says, the sound is this.

This doesn't look like HD sound to me, correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, why in the hell is there black bars, around the screen sometime, and sometimes there is not on the same movie?

the director, christopher nolan switches aspect ratios when he is shooting with the imax cameras or 70mm cameras and the standard 35mm. the imax is used in overhead seens shot from a helicopter and the tractor trailer chase scene because it gives a much bigger and higher definition to the scenes. some of the other members can probably answer this question better than me so ill leave it at this because its all i really know. hopefully this is correct.

also, as far as sound, you need to select dolby true hd in either the main menu of the movie or the popup menu. warner brothers sets their default audio codec to another dolby form. switch it to true hd to get the lossless audio. MUCH MUCH BETTER!

It's not in either... I can't find it, I went to sound and the only thing that popped up is, is subtitles, and language.

do you have the U.S. version? if you do, you can change the audio codec by going into the popup menu, select settings, language settings, and then under spoken languages select english dolby true hd instead of english.

Enjoy it and have fun watching movies my friend. There are to many systems out there to make comments on. If you are happy with it, then I'm happy with it.

It won't say Dolby TrueHD on the receiver, It will say PCM instead. depending on your player, if it decodes internally, like the PS3 then on the player it should tell you if it is Dolby TrueHD.

I have a PS3 so when playing a movie I can hit the select button the the BD remote and it shows what is playing, IE Dolby TrueHD DTS-HD MA the bitrates and what not

Edit: For some BDs you need to select the audio setting first, for most warner BDs the Dolby Digital is the default. It applies to the Dark Knight as well, when the movie starts, since Warner does not include a main menu, you need to bring up the pop-up menu and select the HD audio from there.
