Here's another good point:
WARNER DOESN'T OWN THE GOLAN/GLOBUS CATALOG. ![]() (MGM used to, but think it changed hands, as they've been out of it for a while...Think Paramount's got it now, as the HD print you're looking for did surface on PS Network Store a while back, and looked fairly spiffy. Unless you mean the original cartoon, which BCI used to own before they went under.) Oh, and Street Fighter was Universal. (For those who remember the opening-logo gag.) |

Over here, I do get the PS3 Store, just checked, and it says Paramount on their HD master. (Which is odd, as the one for G/G's "Krush Groove" is listed as Warner, but the SD print of "American Ninja 1" is still Paramount... Can anyone confirm who's got all of the late, lamented Cannon Pictures?) Last edited by EricJ; 12-26-2008 at 09:38 PM. |

Well, I am a pretty big He-Man fan, as can be seen from the fact that "Eternia" is part of my screen name.
I'm actually an active poster on he-man.org (which is easily the web forum where I spend most of my message-boarding-time), and I am actually a member of a He-Man fan club here in IL called 'The Chicago Horde'. I'm also (like a true geek) collecting the recently launched collectible action figure line called "Masters of the Universe Classics". So, would I buy this movie on Blu-Ray? Yes, I definitely would. However, as a He-Man fan (and I currently have all of the DVDs of all of the various He-Man series, as well as this movie), I will say that while I would buy this movie, I would much prefer that the 2002-2004 animated series get released on Blu-Ray. It was actually made in 16:9 (on TV it aired 4:3 with the sides cut off, but the DVDs are 16:9), and from what I've heard, it looks great in Hi-Def. However, the chances of this coming out on Blu anytime soon, which previously seemed likely, were recently cut short. BCI, the company that put out all of the animated DVDs, recently closed down due to the economy, with the rights to everything it has falling under some parent company called Navarre. In fact, one of the people who worked at BCI and on these releases has been an active poster on he-man.org under the name "BCI_Guy". And we unfortunately learned recently that he got laid off because of BCI closing shop. This is very sad for him, and it's also very sad for fans because for some time there had been talk of the 2002 series coming out on DVD. And BCI Guy, who had access to and had actually seen the Hi-Def masters in action, had actually posted how excellent the series looked in Hi-Def. But, with the recent closing of shop of BCI, and from what I've heard about how this Navarre company handles things, I'm not holding my breath on this Blu-Ray release happening anytime soon. But none the less, given the option, I would much rather have the 2002 series on Blu-Ray than the 1987 movie, which for me is actually something of a low point in the overall He-Man franchise (along with the late 80s/early 90s series called "The New Adventures of He-Man). However, having said that, there are still aspects of the movie that I enjoy. I would definitely pick it up on Blu-Ray, and in a perfect world we would get both this movie and the 2002 series on BD. |

Love the Original Series from the 80s, love the Animated series from a few years ago, but IMO the He-Man movie was plain awful. I'd rather it be made during this era because the technology would aid in keeping the film as close to the universe of the original series.
The movie's premise of coming to "earth" in modern times was the Achilles Heel for the film. With Films like the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Braveheart, Gladiator, and 300 around, there should be no excuse for a Live Action film to live up to what we grew up with as kids. Just my Opinion |

Meaning that they legally couldn't tread on any ground of the Filmation series (which's why they had to go to earth, and do the story on the Generic 80's Teen-Action Backstreets set), and that that cheesy Billy Barty character was, quote-fingers, "supposed" to be Orko, but...wasn't. |

I would definitely buy this. When I was younger, my older brother and I rented this every week when we went to my dad's house. We never even bothered to look at other movies to watch. It was always Masters of the Universe.
Watching it now, it's certainly not a "great" movie. But I loved watching when I was young so it will always hold a special place for me. ![]() |
