The listing on Best Buy has now changed name to Illumination Presents: 3-Movie Collection. No mention of being Best Buy exclusive.

I wonder what kind of packaging it comes in. It would be nice if each movie is in it's own standard case inside of a slip box.

I'll probably go this route. I want the 3D copy of 3, so I'll get this now and import that later.

"Illumination Presents 3-Movie Collection". Clever way to avoid the inevitably outdated "Despicable Me Trilogy".

Still seems silly to not even include the series' name on the spine. Glad I got the individual releases with slipcovers (for much cheaper too).

I was holding off on buying them individually until more pics of the set were made available. After seeing this earlier today, I went to Best Buy and picked up the individual 4K releases of 1 and 2 as well as Minions with slipcovers.

Seeing that the spines of the movies in the set don't even really match up with each other, I just opted to get the individual releases with slips. I realize they will still have pretty much the same issue, but I think it still looks at least somewhat better.

While I missed the deal on the first movie being $10 during black Friday, Amazon currently has the first two movies and Minions all for $12.96 each. So I got that price matched at Best Buy (though one of them ended up being $12.75 at Best Buy when they rang it up, so price matching wasn't necessary).

I know it's silly and all, but I just went with what looks better to me IMO. Cost wise once I get the 3rd movie, the difference will be relatively negligible (not counting Minions since that would be separate no matter what). It does look like this set dropped by $10 on Best Buy. It was $60, but is now down to $50.

Thanks for the early pics! I was hoping for something more sleek, so I'll pass on the box. I'll probably just pick up the 3rd in 4K.

So this is only available in Best Buy in the US eh? No sign of it for sale in Canada or even Amazon.com? Weird! Must be a BB USA exclusive then even though it's not mentioned.

It doesn't say anywhere on the box or the website but it's definitely listed as an exclusive in Best Buys internal product description.

Ah well, guess it's all good then. I have the first two in 3D, and just picked up the standalone 4K of the 3rd yesterday so no need for the 4K boxset then. I don't have a DV player, so won't be able to see that anyway.

So should I save a few dollars and get the blu-ray of this? Doesn’t sound like the UHD is overly impressive. Wonder if it’s worth the extra money.

That's the only reason I upgraded, but I haven't had a chance to rewatch the first two yet. Will be pretty disappointed if I don't see much of a difference. Will report back.

I did watch part 3 in DV but I spent a lot of the movie doing crap around the house or calibrating the Dolby Vision settings on my TV since it was the first time I actually used them and the default settings were whack.

If you have a Dolby Vision display they look quite good. Solid depth and no banding. Zero. Zip. Nada. 12 bit to the rescue.

DTS: X for the first two as well. Unfortunately, Universal down-converted the native Dolby Atmos track on #3 to DTS: X.

My display is but LG is waiting forever to release the DV update.
