Default Event Horizon.........found early

I stepped into my local Best Buy this evening (12/26) to find Event Horizon on the shelf a few days early.(releases the 30th)Because of the blu-ray.com review, I decided to pick it up.(yes...the dreaded "blind buy") Has anyone seen this movie? Any thoughts? I hope to watch it this evening..........I will post my thoughts afterward.

Yeah, I saw it there today too, but didn't want to blind buy. They had Ghost Town and Truman Show out early, too, though, and I picked those up.

If you watch Event Horizon, post what you think. I want to know if it's worth a buy.

I don't have the BD yet but I can tell you that, especially the unrated, some of the images are so sadistically frightening, at age 10, I couldn't sleep for days. The central idea of where the ship has been is so scary to me. I'm definitely getting this one...eventually.

I'll contribute to the thread, also.

Event Horizon is imo one of the strongest sci-fi/horror movies ever. It's very, very good and creepy.

I haven't seen this in a few years but was planning to pick it up when it was released. Guess I should go to my local Best Buy and see if they have it out as well. I always enjoyed it and thought it was a really good Sci-Fi, Action, Thriller. I don't want to say what it's about because I think this movie is best if you don't know what to expect the first viewing.

For most of my life, I can honestly say the only thing that can legitimately scare me (that is, keep me thinking that something is going to get me long after the movie ends) is anything having to do with the devil and Hell. As per avatar, you can see I'm a practicing/active Christian (Catholic no less).

With that in mind, Event Horizon is THE scariest movie of all time (to me).

Scarier than The Omen, and The Exorcist?

All that has ever surfaced is a few small deleted scenes. There were rumors for years that Anderson initially had a longer cut that the studio cut down. It is believed the film negatives for the missing scenes are gone or lost. Here is wikipedia on the subject:

Anderson claims that his initial cut of the film, before the visual effects had been completed, ran to about 130 minutes in length. The film was even more graphic in this incarnation, and both test audiences and the studio were unnerved by the gore. Paramount ordered Anderson to cut the film by 30 minutes and delete some of the violence, a decision that he regrets. Some of the lost scenes were offered as special features on the 2006 DVD but were taken from poor-quality video tape as the studio had little interest in keeping unused footage and the original film has been lost.

This is one movie I will likely never pick up on Blu (or any other media for that matter), or ever watch again.

It didn't suck, I'll tell you that much. It just creeped the hell right out of me when I was a kid, and this is one movie where just one viewing was able to leave such a lasting impression on me.

I loved seeing this movie in the theater, i wish I could go back and see it for the first time again. First time a movie has ever scared me and the theater was pitch black.

I'm going to get it, but not at the initial release price. Eventually, this blu will be at $15 or less. I think sooner than later. At $15, I might get this blu from Amazon. If you can wait till this blu is at $12-$10 or less, then I'd definitely get it. The price you get a blu definitely affects whether I'll enjoy that blu or not. That is just me. If you feel comfortable paying for a collector's edition of Hellboy II or Dark Knight, then initial price point is irrelevant to you. To me, every cent counts. My point is that if you can get this blu for $15 or less ($10 or less is better), then you might want to add it to your collection.

The movie itself? Definitely scary. I'm glad to see so many posts having one commonality. The movie is indeed scary. How scary? Too scary. Almost like satanism in space. A feel like Sunshine, except this sci-fi movie had demons, spirits, or inter-dimensional demons in it. It will definitely be something you won't forget for awhile. Scary will the first adjective you'll use to describe the film. I didn't like the movie's ending, but I never saw an uncut (or unrated) version. That is probably something I'd like to see on blu. Definitely as a rental at least.

If you can rent it on blu at blockbuster, then I'd do that first. If you don't have anyplace close that rents blu-rays yet, then you should wait till the movie is $15 or less (with both tax and shipping included).

I agree with other posters. The scariness/sadistic nature of the film is something that you won't quickly forget...even year later.

PS-Anyone see this on blu with a good high def TV, PS3 player, and HDMI, post your comment about the film. I do value everyone's opinion on this film on blu.
