Unhappy I guess i need a new tv?!?!? Help!!! :(

Well i purchased the sony bdp-s350 yesterday and rushed home to connect it only to find no picture... at all. My LG tv has a DVI Input thats supposed to be up to 1080i(where my hdmi dvd was connected to and worked fine) but when i connected the sony blu ray... nothing.

After being on the phone with sony for 30mins they told me that it wasnt compatible...

Dont get me wrong, it shows ok using the component inputs but i was really hoping for the true 1080i picture.

Comments and suggestions please? Thanks in advance.

BTW, my first 2 bd were Transformers and 300... they were 20.99 and 18.99 at Costco. The sound was crazy! I am impressed by the technology of blu ray... idk why i waited so long to get one, thanks guys.

Using component should give you 1080i picture. If you like your TV, you do not need to go out and buy a new one.

according to Cnet, your DVI connection is HDCP compatible. So by all means, your DVI connection should be working with the Bluray player.

...so when you connected it, nothing shows up?

gotta ask two dumb questions just to get it out of the way:

1. You are using an HDMI-DVI cable correct?
2. You changed the input of the TV to the DVI connection?

Yes to both questions and still nothing show, but i shows in 1080i from the component video... I guess that will have to suffice for now or at least until i buy a new lcd tv...

Thanks guys.

Make sure the HDMI output on your Blu Ray player is set to 1080i. I had a similar problem when I first hooked my Samsung BDP-1500 up to my TV (DVI - 1080i) through my receiver. The blu ray player was trying to output 1080p through the HDMI out, and the TV just couldn't do it, so it showed no picture.

Hook the s350 up through components, go into the main menu, and check the HDMI settings....make sure it is set to 1080i. Then hook it up with the HDMI-DVI cable, and try it again.

(I concur with above)

It's possible the BDP-S350 is defaulting to 1080p, try connecting manually, and set the output resolution manually to 1080i instead of auto and go from there, back down to 720p and so on to get a picture, if it dosent work then change the cable, then if it still dosent work it's time to upgrade

It is possible that your DVI cable is not capatiable as well.

I purchased an inexpensive set of HDMI cables only to find out they would transmit 1080i but not 1080p.

I know that you want 1080i just suggesting that it is possible that the cable you are using has a problem

I would say its more than likely that your Blu player is configured incorrectley. Like the last posts said trying to output 1080p and thats why you have not picture.

If i remember correctly, there are 3 types of DVI Cables. There's DVI-A(analog) with a certain pattern of pins in it. Then there's DVD-D(digital) which has a different pattern of pins in it. Lastly there's DVI-I(both analog and digtal) with all the pins in it. The HDMI-DVI cable should be a digital version so either DVI-I or DVI-D. However, your t.v. may be only able to accept DVI-A for like a computer or something. That is probably why they're incompatible if none of the above is working. If you truly are looking for a new t.v., any size and price you are looking for?

EDIT: Sounds like the t.v. definitely has either DVI-D or DVI-I if the guy above is correct with the HDCP integration. Must be a problem, call LG.
