Default Saw

Is it just me or does Saw 1 look terrible on Blu Ray? Saw 2 looks good but SAW 1 looks so weird? Anyways I'am new to the land of Blu but I've got 21 titles in only a month! I also got a 1080p LG 47inch LG50 and the picture is amazing! I had bought a 42in Insigina and exchanged it twice in only 10 days finally bought my LG and haven't looked back since! Anyways so far my favorite Blu Ray is Dark Knight, Wall E and believe it or not House bunny, the picture on House Bunny is insane!

I actually received this Blu-ray (Saw) as a gift and i don't know what all the hype was about. The movie wasn't scary or suspenseful it was just Blah. I really can't say anything about it except i love Shawnee Smith and to me that was the best part of the movie was seeing her in it. Other than that the mild twist in it was all i liked. I wish i never opened it and could return it. I have Saw 2 as well that i will return

Yes the transfer is quite bad on the original Saw. It was one of the very first Blu-ray releases back in 2006. It also lacks the superior Director's Cut.

Sorry i got off on a rant there. But yes it was a bit grainy but i think it was for the effect. Horror and grain kind of go together i think

the transfer wasnt horrible. just sub-par. its was a low budget film anyway. people need to stop whining about transfers because each movie has its own look, they weren't all meant to look like I, Robot or anything.

No, but it definitely has room for improvement. It needs a re-release with a lossless audio track and a high-bitrate encode. Preferably with one of the two more advanced video codecs. AVC or VC-1.

It isn't a reference quality disk by any means, but I don't think it is horrible. It is an improvement over the dvd version and I am happy with that. Especially considering the budget they had for the first saw.

Not all movies are meant to look like Crank.

Sigh...more people buying HDTVs and blu-ray players means more threads like this.

The current Blu-ray release is definitely not the best this movie can look. Nor do I expect it to look anything like Crank or I, Robot.

That's the chief reason I haven't upgraded from DVD.

The lack of available extended cuts or extras.

I'll probably be getting Saw V on DVD as well. For the keen case.

why?

it may be recent but I doubt the budget is much better. In the theater I was stunned by how bad some scenes looked.

Not to mention a re-release needs to be the unedited cut. I almost upgraded my DVD until I saw that the blu-ray was the R-rated theatrical cut for some odd reason.

And they need to release the director's cut of part 3 on blu-ray, too. Then I'll be willing to replace my DVDs. Until then....

I've got this on Dvd. I've boycotted the BD. They need to release a good quality BD with special features and the directors cut.

One exists, the region free German Import. It includes the DC, is on a BD-50, is encoded with VC-1, and contains a 3mbps DTS HD track. It is much better than the Lionsgate release, and contains all the extras from the domestic DVD re-release for those who want them.

Great disc.
