Jaws is fine as it is. We don't need a redundant anniversary re-release. Release the sequels in a boxed set instead.

It seems blurry...
Also, was the contrast like this? low?
I had seen it at the theater but i don't remember.

i would like to buy it, but it doesn't seem so good to me, comparing with recent releases/remasters of other (even much older)films.
Well, the year is almost over and no anniversary edition.
Pity, because I'd like to buy this, but can't bring myself buying this first release.
I'd love it if it got a remaster that was in the level of eg. Munich and The Terminal Blurays.

Does anyone think we'll be getting a 4K release? It could do with a remaster anyway.

Doubtful it will get a remaster. Besides, there is nothing wrong with the current edition.

Still remember the local protests when this movie hit theaters, which is pretty dumb considering it was rated R and aimed at an adult audience. It was banned in a whole lot of towns and some people had to drive a good ways to find a theater. Probably the last movie I can think of that drew a considerable amount of heat.

It's certainly not the worst transfer I've seen from the time, but it wasn't the best either. They could make a lot of improvements over the current release. I personally think it deserves another remaster.

That type of thing wouldn't fly anymore in today's age, the protesters wouldn't survive the outrage.

I think what kills this current blu-ray is the pathetic selection of extras more than anything.

Haha. That's true! I would really appreciate a commentary track from Ang Lee, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway when the film finally gets re-released. It's such a shame that Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal didn't record one originally. Considering how much the film changed their careers at the time.

I don't know about that. It'd probably still be 'banned' in some of the places around here. I heard of people fired from their jobs for saying they voted for Hillary or had their car key'd, etc.

If this gets a new release I'm almost certain it will be a UHD release, or at least I hope it will.

No, you're thinking the opposite, there's such a push for diversity and political correctness in today's age that if this movie were to be released now it would be celebrated like Moonlight.

Umm, I don't think that's actually true. If anything I've heard of Trump supporters being ostracized for being open about their political opinions.

Don't jump down my throat though, don't want to derail the thread with a political debate

Yeah, I was just pointing out how it was in this area. I loved Brokeback Mountain then and now and hope this gets a new 4k scan blu or uhd eventually.

It's mostly for the worse since the push for diversity is being taken a little too far now. I also liked the film and patiently await a new and improved blu-ray.

I imagine it will probably get a Criterion release at some point this decade (or the next one) given its cultural relevance in film and Criterion's great working relationship with Universal/Focus.

A Criterion release of this and another Universal FOCUS film FAR FROM HEAVEN would be greatly appreciated.

I can't believe I forgot "Far from Heaven". That would be a phenomenal Criterion announcement, given their relationship with Haynes and Sirk.

That opening sequence remastered on Criterion Blu would bring tears to my eyes.

I'm frankly astonished Criterion hasn't yet done these Universal/Focus titles from filmmakers they've released before:

Lust, Caution - no US BD
Brokeback Mountain - US BD has ancient transfer
The Pianist - no US BD
Far From Heaven - no US BD

Every month I hope to see one or more of them among the announcements.

All of those would be phenomenal Criterion additions, especially the Ang Lee titles.

Does anyone who has the Aussie release of this know if it's any better than the US one in terms of possibly not having DNR

Having never seen this before, I finally got around to it today.

Since it's a Western movie I just had to check it out and even moreso as it was seen 'controversial,' but personally it didn't feel controversial, just slightly different than other Westerners. Instead of husbands cheating on their wives with women, it's with men.

My favorite part was that it felt real, genuine without anyone overacting or shoving it in one's face because "You see, I'm gay!" (the stereotypical). Great movie all in all.

By the way, during the whole movie I knew I recognized the actor co-starring with Gyllenhaal, yet I couldn't because he played his role so flawlessly.

R.I.P Heath Ledger ()
