The project is based upon Jeffrey Toobin’s bestselling book American Heiress, and has been written by Mangold, Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander. It will reunite Mangold with 20th Century Fox, which is producing the project through its Fox 2000 label.

The film ““traces the audacious, kaleidoscopic and psychologically twisted story of a true-life Alice in Wonderland [and] will follow Hearst’s capture and two-year detainment by the Symbionese Liberation Army in the mid 1970’s, as well as her transition from hostage to warrior.”

Mangold has attached himself to a number of projects following the success of this year’s Logan, including a remake of Disorder, an adaptation of Don Winslow’s new novel The Force, an adaptation of Katherine Applegate’s children’s book Crenshaw, and an X-Men spinoff focussing on Dafne Keen’s Laura / X-23. However, the Patty Hearst biopic is now said to be his next feature.

The problem with this is I wonder if this will even ever happen once Disney takes over Fox. I have to think that it's unlikely.

It’s amazing how much goodwill Mangold has earned after Logan. Before, he was considered a mediocre director-for-hire and I remember the outrage when he replaced Aronofsky to direct The Wolverine.

I dunno. He's got a pretty good filmography.

And I say this as a huge fan of Darren Aronofsky -- the only films I don't own on BD are Pi and of course mother! since it hasn't been released yet -- he simply wasn't the right guy for that job, anyway.

I only own 3 of Mangold's films, but I really liked Walk the Line and Girl, Interrupted, too.

I find it impossible to take either Ray or Walk The Line seriously in the wake of Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.

Hey, I would love to see what Aronofsky would do with ANYTHING. That still doesn't mean he's the right guy for a particular project.

And that whole "Ray with white people," thing ... so dumb. Ray came out a year earlier. If it had been the other way around, would people be saying that Ray is just Walk the Line with black people?

Seriously doubt it.

Did you think so? Honestly, I didn't think she was that impressive enough for an Oscar win. But then again, the movie itself wasn't really impressive either. I thought Felicity Huffman would win because I thought she did a better job with her performance.

I love her performance as June Carter, I love the movie, and Joaquin got completely screwed. Yes. For the scene where they sing "Time's a wastin'" she should have won alone. Also I have respect for people who learn something in short time to play a role. Gosling had a few months to learn jazz piano. And Reese had a short time to really learn to sing.

And it's such a damn'ed fun movie.

I felt the underrated Paul Schrader flick Patty Hearst (1988) was excellent. I saw this years ago - the late Natasha Richardson was superb in the title role, and the rest of the supporting cast was great as well.

However, that film had never gotten a Region 1 DVD release, let alone Blu release.

I wonder if this forthcoming new film will bring more attention to the '88 film, and thereby result in it coming out on DVD/Blu-ray?! Here's hoping
