Default FIRE Lost Entire Collection

Hey guys. Sad news for me today. My folks house, where I lived, burned down last night. Good thing that we all got out ok but I lost my entire bluray collection. At the moment I'm wondering whether I'll have the heart to collect it again. I mean, you get so many from overseas and it just took so much time, and there are bargains you'll never get again. It's a bummer.

That's a shame, FletchNZ, but I'm glad to hear everyone is okay.

Hopefully, you can get some sort of reimbursement from insurance, and maybe use a bit to start building a collection again.

Maybe you could start collecting again with the UHD/BD combo titles, as they're so new, it should be relatively easy to find them, and you won't have missed many bargains, either?

Urgh, every collector's ultimate nightmare scenario.

Glad to hear that the only casualties were immaterial ones, but still a bummer for you obviously.

As McCrutchy says, hopefully insurance will go some way to providing you means to start the rebuild of your collection, but yeah, that won't help with sold out limited editions and OOP items.

Deepest sympathies from one blu ray brother to another....

Thanks, good point. Not sure whether to go 4k or get 3D again.

Man I hope your collection consisted of 169 copies of Predator 'Ultimate Hunter Edition'.

On the bright side, I tend to think as time goes by prices come down, not go up. Unless it's OOP and a collectors item, but that's surely in the minority.

Also maybe there were a few regrets in the collection. So assuming your family had insurance, it frees up a portion of money to go elsewhere...

Man that really sucks, I am sorry to hear this the main thing though is everybody is ok. I know they were only material items but I feel for you. I had a similar thing happen a few years back although it wasn't a fire, the roof came off my house in a huge storm and the inner ceiling collapsed due to the heavy rain and since I wasn't home at the time everything just got soaked for 3 days with heavy rains so by the time I got back home everything destroyed. I was pretty devo'ed at the time but eventually I was able to replace most things.

It may take you some time to get everything else sorted and a new place etc... But if you like the hobby and it brings you enjoyment you may as well jump back on the horse and start collecting again. We could even pass the hat around here on the forum and all send you a blu ray each and get you started again!

FletchNZ, I have doubles of several titles listed in your collection that are just collecting dust and I need to offload.

And I can send you the list of other doubles I want to offload.

Anything you want is yours free of charge.

PM me.

Just how many discs did you lose dude? I'm probably in a good enough position to help you out replacing some of them.

Terrible thing to happen Trademe is a good place to search for replacements, commonly available titles are usually easily found for only a couple of bucks each. Postage can be negligible if you get multiple titles from the same seller too.

Very sorry to hear this, and it's something I dread happening to me.

I'm sure I can put something together, so please get in touch and send me your details

I think we here can get you back on your feet in regards to BluRays. Doesn't help your folks which I feel very sad for.

I'll throw in a few too, just PM an address and I'll get them sent out on Monday. I'm gonna raid the double-up/giveaway pile (which is still a work in progress) just because this is a good enough cause to do so.

Thanks so much for the offers guys. Very kind of you all. I haven't been able to reply until now. I won't be able to even think about doing anything until insurance comes through, etc. Am putting off collecting until I have a permanent place to live etc. Again, thanks so much for the offers.

Sorry to hear your bad news.
In theory, if I were to lose my entire collection, I would guess I would honestly only replace about 20% of what I lost.
A case of what I really wanted, what I would never get around to watching anyway, what I would never watch again, and what was a buy based on it being on special and not really because I wanted it that much.
And also making sure I digitised everything on a hard drive!
It is what it is and nothing will change what happened and what was lost.
You just have to bite the bullet and see it as the freedom to choose and replace what you really wanted.
That's all you are really left with.
