Whats wrong with your current router?
If you're thinking about using it with the PS3 you should know that the PS3 only has a "G" wireless card, so I doubt if there will be any gain from buying an "N" router. Thats the same for all your laptops too, unless you have new ones. |

i own that gaming router and it handles well on the ps3 gaming. There is a feature called Gamefuel on the gaming router so it routes most of the bandwith to the ps3 while gaming. i havent had lag problems even though my router is on the 3rd floor and my ps3 is in my basement. Hope this helps.

Wireless will have some lag inherent in the wireless design. It can be interfeared with from other devices (cordless phones, microwave ovens, bluetooth devices, etc...) Each interfearance causes a collision of traffic and your game data will need to be resent. But this happens hundreds of times per second on your wireless network. Probably your ISP (connect from the Internet) is more of a major factor of lag then your wireless connection. You simply can't beat the convience over a wired network. But, no wireless network can match the speed and reliability of a wire, period.
Gaming routers work exactly like all other wireless routers, with one exception they will prioritize game network data ahead of other data. So if you're the only computer on the wireless network then this is unnecessary. If you have a few computers actively using the wireless network this might help a little bit. Just for a fun test, go to a mom & pop computer shop and get a 200 foot network cable (or some reasonably shorter one for your needs in your house) and see if your games are smoother to play. A cable shouldn't be much more than $30, and it will help you identify if your wireless is a source of lag. |
