Default Magnavox MBP6700 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player and other models under $100

The Magnavox MBP6700 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player is currently selling at Best buy for $99.99, however it does not support Blu-ray 3D discs and only has one HDMI port, one Ethernet port for BD-LIVE and firmware updates, and one front USB port that needs a minimum of 1GB or larger USB stick to use BD-LIVE.

The LG UP875 for $99.99 is a better 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player since it plays Blu-ray 3D discs and offers optical audio output for older A/V receivers.

Name brand players like Sony and Panasonic offer 4K streaming features on their cheapest 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players, I am seeing some low cost 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players under $100 that are removing the streaming features.

Does it have an unbearably loud whirring sound when playing 4K discs like the 970?

I thought it was a good deal at $79 shame they raised it back up to $99 after the holiday. Irony is my first regular bluray player was also a Magnavox I picked up in 2009 for a similar price. It ironically still works, and I still use it. I suspected a 4k version would be a good investment given the reliability of the last one I bought.

I don't use 3D and my connection isn't fast enough to stream in decent quality so the loss of the features for me at least is a non-issue. People were scooping them up like candy on black friday though.

No noisy loud spinning detected, it looks like LG has improved on the disc drive over its older brother UP970.

Honestly, i would steer clear of sub $100 4k players until 2019. By then should be some decent quality models out in the price range. But right now, the sub $100 is pretty rough in build quality and features.

That was a excellent price for $79 or $79.99. That is the cheapest price for the year 2017 on a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. Maybe mid to late 2018 will see even cheaper prices. At a certain point if this format is successful in a few years standard Blu-ray players will be discontinued and in 2020+ 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players will be the norm. Also with no modern flat panel offering the 3D feature and one has to purchase a projector to use 3D, it makes since why some manufactories to save $5 or $10 in manufacturing cost remove the 3D feature from very low cost 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players. However I wish the BDA would have made Blu-ray 3D a requirement in all 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players, but the BDA did not make it mandatory, and that is why people see Samsung's flagship second generation 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player without the Blu-ray 3D feature.

I hope it becomes popular so I can get TV shows and movies in the format. With my connection speeds 4k streaming is pretty much impossible. I upgraded to 4k this winter both in the Westinghouse 4k TV and the Magnavox 4k blu-ray player just to get my foot in the door. This is the first year 4k really got "cheap" with a lot of low end models flooding the stores. That is the key to mass market adoption so probably within a few years there will be heavy market penetration. I doubt regular blu-ray will be discontinued though, it will just replace regular DVD as the bargain format.

Other than a few mainstream TV shows I doubt we will see most shows on UHD discs.

I know a lot of older ones and even ones going a few years back probably weren't even filmed anywhere near 4k. Then there is the fact that streaming companies like netflix and amazon wouldn't release their shows on a competitive format. Though I have hope for some at least.

older tv shows in 4k will happen. Heck, The Shield, shot on 16mm back in 2002 is getting a full remaster right now with eta for march completion. If a show as gritty and rough looking as the shield, shot in 16mm can make it to UHD, we should be seeing many more follow suit. Remember, bluray was the same its first two years, very few shows were being released on the format then the floodgates opened.
