I don't think any set top box service other than the PSN store allows you purchase movies via download.

Well, see, ISPs are cracking down on folks BitTorrenting massive video files already. Which is more or less what VUDU is doing. So there is some reason for concern when it occurs without the user being necessarily aware. And of course, the user needs to be more aware of how much their ISP cares about that sort of thing.

While I do agree, Peer to Peer is a really good deployment model [decentralized computing is a good thing].

Yes, you can buy HD movies with Vudu.
Here is the website for anyone that wants to check it out.
www.vudu.com
I was reading an article(can't remember where). Anyway the guy did a test. He tried out Apple TV, Amazon Unbox through Tivo, Roku(Netflix) Vudu and another one I can't remember. The only one he gave an A rating was the Vudu. They have deals in place with more studios than anyone. He also said the quality was the best compared to the others.
Hopefully I'll get mine in the next day or two so I can put it through its paces.

Where on their site does it specifically say you can purchase movies in high-def? And what about HDX versions of movies? Are those available for purchase?

When you go to the website click on the movie link. It's all there. Tells you if they are for rent/purchase/both. Also has coming soon. Lots to choose from.

That's what I've been hearing doing my research. Well my wife just called and said our Vudu package arrived so I'll be hooking it up tomorrow. Can't wait. There are a lot of movies on their site in coming soon that I can now rent instead of buyin a Bluray I'm not sure I'll like.

I'm seriously having a hard time trying to find titles that are available to buy in HD.

Here something I found in regards to bandwidth and Vudu:

For the record, Vudu's CTO weighed in with a comment on Gomes' article:

1. Vudu's usage of upstream bandwidth is capped at a value designed to not interfere with other in-home activities.

2. Vudu dynamically auto-detects other use of upstream bandwidth and throttles itself down in those cases.

3. The user can manually throttle down Vudu bandwidth usage in the Settings page to throttle down upstream usage if they aren't happy with their network performance.

4. Bandwidth usage per user actually declines as the Vudu network gets larger, so there's no reason to be concerned that things are ok now but will get worse over time. (If anything, available upstream bandwidth will go up

http://www.usnews.com/blogs/daves-do...bandwidth.html

Seems like they do a good job limiting it so it doesn't affect your surfing. If you got the cash go for it... seems pretty cool.

Thanks a bunch for posting that. Now I'm sure I won't have any problems after hooking it up tomorrow. I'll post my results after I use it. Thanks again.

Didn't know where to post this. I just ordered a Vudu box simply because after doing the research it seemed like the best deal. Also I saw on their website where they are doing a Christmas sale where you can get the whole thing for 198.00. That includes the box, the remote, 2 wireless adapters, all the cables and 50.00 in movie credit.
Can't wait to get this baby setup.
Here's the website in case anyone wants one. Don't know how long the sale is for.
www.vudu.com
If anyone already has one, let me know how you like it.
This forum is about Blu-ray.....why would you even post this idea of yours? Isn't there a digital download forum somewhere where you can try to impress them with this instead? This box will be another dud in the consumers minds anyway. Hmmmm hard drive crashes? There go the streams.....

Exactly. I have purchased a few HD Television shows from iTunes that aren't available on Blu-ray...yet. I am still kind of wary about this as iTunes does not let you re-download once you have already done so. You will have to pay again. What happens when I fill up my hard drive? I do realize I can get another hard drive that is larger so I have more storage, but it seems kind of foolish to purchase something that can only be played on one device (actully I think it is 7 different computers with iTunes). I won't be able to loan them out and my friends usually look to me first when they want to see something. I trust them and have never had a problem with not getting stuff back.

Actually if you're not interested then fine. I posted this because chances are there are others interested and guess what there were. My mom always said "If you don't have something nice to say then don't say anything at all".
Enough said.
To the others who wanted to know how it worked, I hooked it up this morning(took about 5 minutes) and it was up and running shortly after. So far so good. I had to head to work so I'll post on quality tomorrow.

Actually for me and many others, I don't want to go to the video store or do Netflix. This is an excellent alternative. I did the research and the Vudu came out ahead of others like Apples Itunes store, netflix Roku, amazon Unbox etc...

To each his own. I swear I think some folks just like to look around the forum to see who they can dog. So childish.
