Hey oz, Although i just starting to learn this technical stuff, all of these look like great players. I am curious why you went with these models instead of let`s say, the sony 550 or the panny 55 when these are quite a bit more expensive? Enlighten me.

I agree as well with the previous post. I suppose there is something to be said for having a more uniform look to your setup and in that case, the Yamaha was a good choice for you to begin with. I wouldn't change your initial pick as such.

Happy New Year!

John

Built quality,First off i don't want a plastic case

This is the 3 i started with i don't want a Sony or a panasonic .I want one of these higher end models.Me putting money on the yamaha makes me think, would the Marantz or pioneer be a better choice .

I guess iam looking for someone to say "don't buy the Yamaha because the pioneer has........ this ....and...that ...and the Yamaha doesn't have....and so on. You know what i mean

For example Denon and Marantz player have a Realta chip the other two don't is this something i want?

I want to know that choosing this Yamaha in rank , beats the pioneer model and marantz for PQ and audio.(i might never find this answer but it worth asking

I am looking at the 3 of them as a whole and what one would be best for me.

I will go with Yamaha unless someone can help me understand why this might not be the best choice. I know iam asking for a lot but this is it .
after this thread iam buying the player ,Yamaha or not.thats why iam asking you guy's. $800 is not chump change for me .So iam looking for suggestion and opinion on the 3 i listed

If money is no object for you, how about getting all 3 then after you decide which one you want, just give me the other 2

None of the three. The improvements resulting from the upgrade to the 3 players mentioned are extremely minimal. I seriously doubt you will see any improvement on the equipment listed in your signature. Get the S350. BTW, metal cases and weights added to make something feel better made, yield nothing to actual performance. Sorry, just being honest.

I thank you for your honest opinion
I wanted to add Yamaha and Pioneer give out 2 year warranty (and i belive you can out extend another year on that) and Marantz gives out 3 years,That's big in my book

I also want to say in my 2nd comment i said $800 is chump change to me,I meant that $800 is not chump change to me LOL sorry (i changed it)

Oz, if you want the higher end units also check out the Sony ES model, it is supposed to be the BDP of BDP's rivaling the units you are listing, but on the same note, if you are looking for uniformity, go with the yamaha.Sony ES BDP

Edit:: Sorry, Just noticed the $2K price tag... lol

I like the look of the Pioneers best though.

If it just came down to looks i say Yamaha.
The bigger players remind me of the First DVD players or that Laser disk player i have in the closet. Remember those Beta Players WOW!
We all know in time they will be smaller in height

Yamaha i think caught this.Iam just saying

Oh buy the way Happy New Years,

Married with four boys this is what i do now LOL

Nope. Better parts = better weight. That in no way affects performance at all.

Until you have seen the Pio in person, I wouldn't judge otherwise.

I heard pioneer gives a beautiful picture but they were having problems with certain movies and freezing,I don't know if pioneer has fixed this firmware wise,But trust me i have been also thinking about this player still leaning towards Yamaha though

Yes, Pio does have the best performance to value out of any BR player, but it has "slow" load times (about 10 seconds slower), an odd menu, but boasts excellent PQ and AQ that rivals players 2-3x as much.

The latest FW was the 1.17 and has been out for two months now, I think. There's supposed to be another one coming out in January as well.

The 51/05FD use a totally new chipset unlike other brands that are on their first chip. Pio is on their second, and likewise, has a few hick-ups a long the way. If you are patient, the 51/05FD's is the most worthwhile pickup, currently.

I have been through about 175 BR's (monthly rental, in-store BB) without a problem.

EDIT: He used a player with 1.07, quite a few things have changed with 1.17.

The Pioneer without a doubt.

Looks the most beautiful and professional out of the 3. Also I love the name "Pioneer". Truly stands out.

But yeah if money wasn't an obstacle or a factor I'd hands down pick the Pioneer.

The Marantz weight is 23 lbs. No chance of vibration. Better picture. This is the 8002. Get on Audiogon.com. You can pick up a new one for 1500.00

Call Pio "Parts" not the store in CA, and order a FW CD. It's free. Insert CD and follow directions. Simple as pie.

If anything, you would just have to pay S&H if they don't ship to CA. I know it is free to US owners.

The current FW is 1.21 now, I haven't been on AVS lately. I'm going to call tomorrow and have them ship the FW disk.

Here's another review.

One concern i have is my tv being 1080i,iam wondering how it works for that setup.the reviewer was only useing 1080p tv.I heard Pioneer does not hadle 1080i Well. But i only read that once and i really don't feel like looking for it( if you know what i mean) But i could bring it home ,i have a 7 day return policy with my dealer
