No other Sony steelbook has had a new disc included. Also, Sony rereleased the movie in a standard case and the back cover is identical to the original release. I would put my money on the steelbook being the same old disc.

I'm quite sure it's the same old disc..but was hoping somebody out there who got the new steelbook could confirm it for me just to be 100% sure.

Rather disappointing they're using the same old MPEG-2 transfer on a release 8 years after the original DVD.

If anyone's still looking for a cheap(ish) version of the Japanese extended cut of Resident Evil Apocalypse, I highly recommend this new release of the 98 mins cut, it has English TrueHD 5.1, english subs, and lots of extras. Haven't had the time to check the second disc, but it says bonus disc and something about a TV version (?). Have no idea yet about the second disc. This release comes with a beautiful slipcover as well:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Resid...lu-ray/137351/

Down to 2030 Japanese Yen, 1880 after amazon.jp deducts tax, not too bad. I'm thinking about buying the first Resident Evil as well, perhaps it has a better image than the old discs from 2008....

Edit: The second disc is the movie dubbed in Japanese. Well, this package is really beautiful anyway

Is there anything really groundbreaking to the extended cut? Do the 4 minutes really improve on an already mediocre movie?

Why the hell is Amazon JP out of this now? Anyone know of other sources? I wanted to order it but for some dumbass reason the 3rd party sellers fulfilled by amazon don't ship to the US. If Amazon ships it, it should go to all the same places Amazon ships their own products.

It just has all the deleted scenes integrated. I think it’s better, but certainly not any sort of revelation.

It's the quality that's better. The extra scenes and the plethora of extra, 2nd disc content (if you can get through the JP untranslated titling ) are icing on the cake. Still crap sound on all US releases of this, which is BS.

As far as shipping, you don't seem to understand the marketplace, NoLifeDGenerate. Those items are not sold or shipped by Amazon, they're shipped and sold by the individual sellers. With all the tax/export fee hassles, etc., I don't believe I've ever (or rarely) seen an Amazon.JP market item which ships to the US. They only make so many of these limited editions and perhaps you waited too long. Try eBay (only 1-new for $59).

No. Plenty of sellers on Amazon's marketplace are fulfilled by Amazon. Their items are sitting in Amazon's warehouse and Amazon ships them. Prime eligible, etc. The ones that Amazon ships should be able to ship all the same places that Amazon ships their own ****ing items.

Amazon US, yes, NOT Amazon JP.

Again, I said "I don't believe I've ever (or rarely) seen an Amazon.JP market item which ships to the US." Now, that's been my experience. As you don't show your collection, not sure how many Amazon.JP orders you've done - but you can see that I have quite a few imports (and that's without many titles "not shipped to the US" that I couldn't buy). So, good luck. I showed you the only one listed on eBay (from Japan), and the fact remains that the export fees make individuals reluctant to ship to the US via Amazon, not as much via eBay.

Well, I ordered the German version. $10 on Amazon.de vs $60 for that Japan one on ebay. Piss on it.

Sony Pictures I don't remember which subtitle goes with each movie...

I watched all the RE movies before the last one came out. First-time viewings for most. My favorite was the one in the Las Vegas desert. It had good-looking practical zombies, the least CGI tomfoolery, and was edited coherently.

If this thread is about the second one, the one in the city during the outbreak, then it's the worst one for me. The editing and sound design literally gave me a headache.

Yup. The jittery slow motion effects are awful and the actress who plays Jill is terrible.

The one you are talking about is Extinction. Imo also the best RE movie. Directed by Russell Mulcahy (Highlander).

The German disc has the same crap MPEG-2 encode - with lossy sound on a BD_25 disc - what’s the point? At least the US release has PCM 5.1 uncompressed audio. The JP disc is MPEG-4 AVC with Dolby TrueHD (lossless) on two BD 50’s. Sometimes you get what you pay for. On this one, for now, go JP or stick with the cheap US disc.

Don't care. Just wanted the extended cut. I still watch DVDs of some movies because the *******s didn't put the extended/DC/whatever on the blu-ray.
