What are your thoughts on alternate versions of movies?
I find them pretty interesting. You can literally change a character, scene or even a whole movie with one alternate take. |

With something like Kingdom of Heaven for instance, the theatrical cut and the director's cut are almost two wholly different films. And don't even get me started on Blade Runner -- wow. OTOH, sometimes (often?) it's just adding length or other elements which don't change anything in any significant way. So while I'm usually excited by the prospect of a new or different cut, it really in the end depends on the individual thing we're talking about. |

I know a bunch of people would disagree with me here, but I'm in the minority that loves the extended cut of Terminator 2: Judgement Day. The theatrical version is nice, by all means - but the extended version just gives you that little extra. For example, I only found out with the extended edition that the reason the T-1000 "glitches" is because he is damaged by the liquid nitrogen, which extended shots show more of.
I am also a fan of the extended versions of these movies: The Hobbit: an Unexpected Journey The Hobbit: The Deslotation of Smaug The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Jingle All The Way The Abyss Avatar If you enjoy the movie then I see no harm in having a little more. ![]() |

I always prefer to see a director's intended cut of a film at least once. Sometimes this is the original theatrical release, with any later alternate versions created for marketing purposes only. Other times a director gets to go back and finally finish the film his way, after having his creativity stifled during the film's original post-production.
I'd say I prefer the director's cut of films to the available alternatives roughly 8 out of 10 times. Sometimes extended versions do work for me, even if they aren't director approved. |

One alternate cut no one ever talks about is the Stripes extended cut. This may be the worst alternate cut I've seen. The extra stuff they added in is absolute unfunny garbage that slows the movie down. For awhile the extended cut was the only version available on blu ray but the theatrical cut is now available but its 26.99 for the Sony choice collection which is way too expensive for a BD-R. It's one of the few movies I don't own because of the cut that's on the disc. Now that I think about it, most comedies suffer from an extended or director's cut more than other genres.

I have 2 that I think benefited from "unrated" cuts: Briedesmaids and Forgetting Sarah Marshll -- but the diff. wasn't that big. Please forgive my typing. I got frost bite, and have gauze all over my fingers, can only use like 3 fingers to type, etc. |

I have a great interest in (filmed) additional material. It’s always a very pleasurable experience in seeing more from a beloved favourite.
I’m very grateful this stuff has been preserved on Laserdisc/DVD/Blu-ray as supplements or as alternate cuts - alongside the original theatrical versions. |

I have seen every version of Oliver Stones "Alexander" which have been made to appease fans, critics and the director himself.
*Theatrical (straight forward and raw, best version of final battle) *Director's Cut (easy to consume for fans of blockbuster epics) *Revisited - Final Cut (wild structural time jumps to makes comparisons to young Alexander vs the conqueror Alexander) *Ultimate Cut (refines the wild time jumps in final cut to make them blend better, gives breathing room to scenes better and has the best and clearest version of the first battle which highlights the war strategy better.) Thats probably way to much Alexander, but hey, it's been interesting to watch them and they don't feel like quick cash grabs (besides the director's cut). |

I know it's hated, but I thought the Director's Cut of Daredevil (2003) was really good.
There is an alternate cut of Iron Man (2008) that I have seen with additional scenes that has been on FX (or FXX). Also the IMAX Version of Transformers had additional scenes. Why Iron Man 1 and Transformers never had a home media release is beyond me. For studios not to release them is just messed up. |

No I don't think the new remastered version has the extended scenes. I'm not certain if the Skynet Edition is the extended version or not.
I know the full runtime of the 4K remastered version with credits is 2 hours 17 minutes, or 137 minutes. Any version of T2 longer than that will be extended. Edit: The Skynet Edition is 152 minutes long. It is the extended version. |

There was rumor a couple years back that Ocean's Eleven and Ghostbusters both had an alt cut floating around. There were a few people, like maybe 3 or 4 who claim they have actually watched the Ghostbusters alt cut, and said the entire cast had been replaced with females, and that the movie is as horrible as one might imagine. Not sure how true that is, it's the internet after all. Looked around for the Ocean's, but couldn't find any info. Wonder what that cut was all about.

I figure you’re referring to physical media versions, but you can get the original theatrical cut on digital in HD. I have it. |
