of course i could be 1000% wrong here... .

its probably cheaper for criterion to upgrade their Japanese DVDs to bluray as well. they have some pretty amazing stuff that defintly needs upgrades. and asian movies dont get that many slots anyway.

for my taste we see way to many french and US "classics" getting upgrades

Btw, weren't there rumours about different cuts of 2046? And I don't mean the censored mainland version here. For example, dvdcompare.com lists some releases as "extended"...

I don't see anything on your blog about the Eos release of Chungking Express, have you compared it to the previous discs you reviewed?

i think that blog was about the difference between the japanese and US (international) release of Happy Together.

since the EOS release of In the mood for love is worse than the Criterion release i assume the Chunking release wont be great either. + the 2046 release isnt really that awesome as well (videoquality)

DVD master, terrible compression, ghosting issues...
Someone really needs to create a new transfer for this masterpiece!!!!!

Now that you have received it, what do you think of this release?

The DVD seems Dolby digital while the blu is DTS.
Apologies for bringing up old posts, but.... Speaking of the soundtrack, which is very very important in 2046, how is it on DTS MA versus old Dolby Digital?

His blog has 3 entries about CE. I've finally finished this thread, yeah it seems all were disappointed with the Blu-Ray-ification of the SD master of 2046. Dayam. I'm still interested in the CE BD as the Criterion one now costs almost as much as a plane ticket.

Ya know, I didn't A/B the audio of the blu to the DVD. Just the image in motion and on pause.
I think the audio is fine on the blu, but sorry, I forgot to compare.

NO worries t'all. Generally I think it's hard to hear quality differences, UNLESS there's been some dickering with the mix. E.g. dialog +4, surrounds are louder, pops/clicks/hisses are more pronounced in the HD audio, etc. Of course, it could be a simple conversion of the DD 5.1 mix to a higher encoding, so no more information than was there previously. Pffft.

Anybody have a proper link to where I can buy a blu-ray copy of this movie? I can't find one on Amazon or eBay.

Ebay also has a listing for this boxset for about $120. Not bad if you are a fan of the flicks. I just really want the 2046 disc though, personally.

I just wanted the single release of the film, especially because I already own four of those movies individually.

Does anyone know where to find this BluRay? I'm also looking for it but appears to be out of stock.

Maybe someone wants to sell theirs?

Haaaaaa. I'd have to sell mine for alot because it's possibly my favorite film.

I can't believe it's actually on Blu-ray.

The only other two movies I want on Blu-ray are Solaris and Stay (True Lies and The Abyss do not count because everybody wants those.)

How much is a lot?
I'm sure there is someone willing to make a deal here...

Anyway, how bad would you say the Sony DVD is compared to this EOS Blu-Ray?

I compared the DVD to the Blu-ray before I sold off the DVD. The PQ on the blu was a slight improvement, and the subtitles on the blu were a bigger improvement.

There's a German Solaris. I can't remember if it's B locked. I'll check in a few.
