I started this thread about this matter which I hope it doesn't become a trend.
From what I understand the new Mummy releases and the first harry Potter movies that had new scans, didn't include that latest transfer in the Blu-ray which is bundled with the 4K disc. I don't know if anyone else is upset about this thing. i really wanted to buy those movies and now i can't. (the previous blurays are much inferior by today's standards). Do you think this will become a trend forcing us to switch to 4K? |

Well definitely some of the studios are going to go at least for a while with this model to see if they can't "coax" viewers to see the superiority of 4K by only allowing comparison with a dated HD master (and part of it is being too indifferent to issue a freshly authored BD).

Not all that surprising, unless they are going to release the 4K remaster to blu-ray as a new SKU (which they really should be doing). But if there is no new blu-ray SKU, it's not surprising they are just using the old discs. Though it really is a shame and a waste - particularly for those that will never switch to UHD. I guess we'll see next time something like Mummy is re-packaged, if they'll ever offer upgraded discs.
