There is a preview trailer for this on youtube available in 1080p, just wondering if the clips shown in the trailer give a fair representation of what to expect from the blu-ray regarding the picture transfer or is it any better?

USA When is this coming to the US??

Oh wow, I didn't know Hammer Horror are getting blu-ray release in UK. Awesome!!!

Any idea when this will get a US release, because I watch this movie on TV and this is like scary on the same scale as an Alfred Hitchcock horror film. I also love this version of Frankenstein (on the same level as the 1932 Universal Monster version with Boris Karloff).

I would also love it if these other Hammer Horror films can get blu-ray release in UK (and US)

Dracula/Horror of Dracula:

The Mummy:

The Brides of Dracula:

I would love to see those movie to get a Blu-ray release.

I tried playing this on my Code Free Blu Ray player and this happened
1)The Blu Ray didnt load
2)the DVD was full frame and the print was terrible
I have no idea why or whats going on. Did anyone else have playback issues with this movie ? Or I am just the lucky one

No problem with playing the discs, only problems for me lie in the "quality" of the Blue Ray which is to me unacceptable as it is better on the last dvd release of the movie.

thats funny, I put the Blu Ray disc in and just sort of froze in limbo loading or whatnot. Nothing happened after like 5-6 minutes, the player made no sounds like it was doing anything to load it.
the DVD was some awful full screen murky transfer.
Im more concerned with the Blu Ray, and I hope the other 2 Blu Rays I ordered wont have this problem.
I should probably wait and hope Warner releases this in the USA
I bought it because it has a lot of cool extras but whats the point if I cant play it , and the transfer stinks lol

Well I figured out (with some help) what the problem was so I finally was able to play the Curse of Frankenstein Blu Ray . Not bad, but Quatermass & the Pit was way better HD quality-wise.

They don't even acknowledge the criticisms any more.

Worse still, they are promoting "Horror of Dracula" as their next big release in 2013.

Sainsbury's Entertainment are showing this up for pre-order - release date 8 July 13. Is this a mistake or are they re-releasing after less then a year; nobody seems to have this up for pre-order other then Sainsbury's, which is odd if this isn't a mistake!

So is this worth buying? Is the picture quality good enough? I have been thinking about getting Hammer horror movies on Blu-Ray. I have only seen Dracula.

Unfortunately not really - the quality really is surprisingly poor. I'd wait until Warners get round to remastering it in the US (probably as a Warner Archive release) and import that version.

Yup, a crap looking Frankenstein & a far too blue Dracula (although that one has plenty of fans). Warner, we're counting on you

This has superb extras though which you can pretty much be sure won't be on a Warner disc. Buy it for those, enjoy the film and just add to it if a better quality copy comes along.

I got a better picture out of Curse with my TV controls - increase the contrast, decrease the brightness, bump up the blue.

Sadly, there are three different aspect ratios on DVD - the 1.85:1 Warner release, and the 1.331 and 1.661 transfers on the UK BD. All of them are wrongly framed! Even the open matte 1.33:1 looks weirly zoomed it in the cemetery scene just after
[Show spoiler]Frankenstein kills the professor.
. i wonder if they zoomed into it to hide some possible empty space on the matte painting of the crypt, with the eagle on top.
