So, the movie is currently only available in regular HD.... Has Disney said anything about when the 4k version may become available?
And if someone has the HD version on iTunes, is it safe to assume it will automatically be upgraded? |

The Walt Disney Company has their own streaming platform coming in the next year or two with their own box to go with it. This platform will offer 4K streaming and Disney already has many more films prepared in 4K for the launch. Rather than just a singular revenue stream, they can have a perpetual revenue stream as consumers can pay $10 a month (estimate) to stream 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, The Greatest Showman, Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs, and Armageddon in 4K. And of course the HD debuts (in the US) for A Lot Like Love, While You Were Sleeping, and What About Bob. Then Disney will supplement that stream with their cut from Hulu for Die Hard, Alien: Covenant, and Deadpool 2. |

Not everyone will want streaming since not everyone has good internet service. Besides physical Media UHD will always be better than streaming UHD. So if Disney was smart provide both Physical and Streaming to maximize sales. Especially if people end up cancelling out their streaming because they aren’t happy with quality of streaming. So yes Disney is dropping the ball. Besides monthly payment doesn’t mean u own a copy of a film especially if they decide to change their lineup every so often and u wouldn’t be able to watch a certain film anytime u want. While Physical Media you would own a copy of the film.

So if they really wanted to milk Apple customers they'd sell 4K content to them now and then drop a 4K subscription service Apple TV app. People would have bought a load of things but they'd still subscribe for everything else.
In the UK we don't have kudu or movies anywhere, so there's no (legal) way to get this stuff digitally. And when that happens lots of people steal. Not advocating it, but it's a fact, so maybe Disney have a strategy but there's always people willing to spend money on the same stuff in a different package so if you have a way to sell it now sell it now, and let marketing worry about how to sell it again in a few years. They've had people upgrading Disney classics and Star Wars through VHS, laserdisc, DVD, BD, and UHD, in god knows how many remasters and special editions, they shouldn't worry about it. |

Since reading this post I've been searching Google for information but I can't find any. What was the box announced and do you have a link to any details? And does this mean there won't be a tvOS app? |

Cheers.
Do you think Disney will do an apps for AppleTV, iOS, etc. too ? EDIT: It seems that device was a prototype that Snakebyte was hoping to interest Disney in and nothing to wnd ith Disney. I think the rep was just enthusiastic and didn't explain properly https://www.gamespot.com/articles/th.../1100-6446723/ Last edited by ManOfTheForest; 08-19-2018 at 03:47 PM. |
