Trophies/Achievements are great in that they teach you new ways to play, have you playing games you never would have otherwise played and IMO makes you a more rounded player.
I spend time trying to get these points and some games are like work, others I enjoy. I'm not going to spend 4 hours to get 50 achievement points but I will invest some time as long as I am at least enjoying it. I currently have 73,*** achievement points and have enjoyed getting them over the years. They won't buy me anything but it's nice to have those bragging rights. |

I never thought I would care for trophys when they were introduced but I find myself playing games over again to try to get trophys. It has added a whole bunch more to the replayability of games. SSHD still has me coming back for more trying to get that damn 15 bombs trophy.

Because its intended with the stereotype examination of Generation Y which is also called the Trophy Generation, the expectation of entitlement... In the end it makes people happy which = good, because people are happy people buy more games... As long as everyones happy im happy, ive decided to have a new out look on life, as long as it makes people happy be happy for them, and never share any discontent, because your wrong.. ![]() |

+1 gamerscore and achievements on the box seem "generic" when compared to the "ching" sound of yet another trophy for my shiny ps3. Not to mention I can also compare my level to my friends and check out which trophies they have as well (in game at anytime).

I mean, I've been sticking proximity mines on enemies backs, shooting them in the balls, playing with a melee focus, playing with a pistol focus, etc etc in games for years and years. There also have been several games over the years with lists of alternative objectives for the player to do. Sometimes rewarding with extra weapons or levels or sometimes just adding more to the percentage completed of the game as a whole. Now, you get an extra jingle and a little trophy symbol to display with gives you gamerscore points or trophy experience points. Trophies are for completionists, collectores, people who like to see numbers go up. Its kind of like the other high score. Experience points, score tallies, trophies, its all aimed at the aforementioned group/s of people. Some of those people are quite into it and won't even buy games unless they have trophies in them. Its like that is all they want, who cares about the game. Oh! it has trophies now?! ok, well maybe I will pick that one up, then. Its like they have to have something to show for the fact that they played that game, otherwise who cares? A lot of those same pleople still don't even care to actually be playing the game. If they can, they will break the game as much as possible to get those trophies as quickly and completely as possible. (see, most multi-player/co-op games) I don't really care about trophies in general. I've looked at my trophy level maybe twice, ever. Sometimes they can give you neat ideas on how to play, sometimes they are just stupid and are handed to you for playing the game anyways. I really think they should be rewarded for alternative play styles, extra objectives, etc. Not, oh, you killed this boss? Ok, here's the "lizard killer" trophy! Now, maybe there is a secret boss somewhere that you don't have to fight to complete the normal game, ok cool, give a trophy for that, yeah. Last edited by Toptube; 01-05-2009 at 03:48 AM. |

this is what i mean. and yes, people who are 'completionists' as you say are going to enjoy trophies more. but it sounds like you have a lot of resentment towards those people and the trophies itself. if you don't care to collect them, why would you care what anyone else does with regards to them? oh and havok, i was just kidding. i think there is a trophy in fallout 3 for taking the g.o.a.t, which is an acronym for some test thing i can't remember. thats the only goat trophy i know of, and its very easy to get because you pretty much have to take the test to proceed in the game (although there are a series of answers that can get you out of taking the goat). |

You live them.. that sounds dangerous perhaps you should live to live and enjoy life itself. :P
Just kiding the Y generation is said to have started in 70's so you might be part of the Y generation and not know it... unless your older then 38 then you might be part of generation x, if your younger you would be part of generation Z.. which I hear that there going to be the ones to destroy the world once and for all.. ![]() |
