+1,000,000

It was brave, genius and epic on a personal scale. The ending made the rest of the movie mean 10 times as much.

I agree that the ending made the movie mean a lot but I see movies to be
entertained (I thought that was what movies were made for). Deprogram
ourselves??? Are you kidding?
This was a well made movie, I cared about the characters. I'm a father and
have 2 boys. This ending may have been powerfully effective but it
was nasty, depressing, cynical, and mean-spirited. It made me depressed for days after seeing it.
Put me in the "hated it" camp (there seem to be only 2 reactions to this movie
from all the posts I've read)

I have three boys and you expressed my exact feelings.

It's one of those that pits the Christian villain against humanistic, easy-goin' secular folk.

I loved the ending. As said earlier, the story was good but the ending really made it for me.

I like the story as originally written. The "radio drama" by ZBS media from the 90's was terrific. This filmed version ruins the mood with a ham fisted ending.
I still love the whole idea, but this director just couldn't resist putting his stamp on the story by totally altering it. The subtlety of the original ending haunted me. This one just made me roll my eyes.

First off...I liked this movie alot.

Lastly, I agree with Akoris. I'm a dad and the ending of this movie bothered me alot. Not to give away anything...but once you see the ending you will know exactly what we're talking about.

I don't enjoy movies that have this specific sort of thing in them. The ending is the only thing that keeps me from wanting this without reservation.

I didn't think I would like this movie, but ended up loving it. The ending is horrible though.

Yeah, I'm the same. I'm not a dad, but can empathise, and found the ending in no way believable. I would fight to the bitter end for loved ones. There is no way you'd do that. No way at all. I find it odd any camp that thinks the ending was brilliant. It was as believable as the Pope having a threesome with the Olsen Twins on Pay Per View.

Up to then though, it was a fantastic film. I just wish there was an alternate ending...

Exactly. It was a superb movie with a worthy ending to boot!

mean-spirited?

You prefer that everyone drive off into the sunset happy go lucky and everything A OK? Seriously? What would you do in that situation? Wait to be killed and not know the fate of your kids after your dead or save them the horror and pain and do it yourself?

I have said it many times before - the ending captures what we are as humans today. No patience for anything, quick to judge without comprehension of what is being thought about, etc etc. Greedy and think of nobody else but ourselves. Selfish.

If he would have waited just 2 more minutes - all would have been well. He didn't. Greed and selfishness took hold.

If you parents knew you were going to die and your kids were with you and they were going to die as well, how would you handle it?

Facts of life. There is no Disney fairy tale here.

I have watched this movie many times and it is an excellent film every time I see it. Makes you sad that people are like that but it's so true.

I'd like to here your opinions and ultimately is The Mist worth a blind buy?
NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!

That is my opinion. Way to religious and preachy for me.

I have been wanting to buy this movie on BR SO BAD!!!!

Movie was amazing in terms of it's layout and set-up: a suspense/horror movie that presents itself as a play having it set on a very minimal stage (a town store) with it's sharp dialogue and interesting characters. Marcia Gay Harden's character in particular so menacing and IMO is in the league with other classic villaious characters ever to hit the silver screen!

The Mist is a horror movie which has great character development, which is something that's almost never done in the genre. Frank Darabont (director/screenplay writer) is the man!

I'm glad Darabont changed the ending from Stephen King's novella. It's BRUTAL.....but it was all about making a choice.

The Mist is a suspensful movie, it keeps you on the edge of your seat. The ending is really unexpected and jaw dropping, I personally thought it was good but you'll either love it or hate it. Overall I would recomend this movie to any horror fan... it's definitly better than Hostel or any of the 17 Saw movies.

Good movie and a brilliant ending IMHO. One of the best films based on King's material.

Nothing special. Maybe it was just me but I had a hard time believing this was a Frank Darabont movie. It felt like a low budget made for TV movie.

That is the issue. You would keep fighting for your loved ones. Only a sociopath would have done what he did, and that is incongruous with how he was portrayed throughout the rest of the film. So for example, a few options,
[Show spoiler]get out of the car and and start pushing; sit in the car and wait, all get out of the car and keep walking; making a one man run back to a car they had passed for gas/transport. Or my personal fav, actually having the frigging sense to get gas from other abandoned vehicles when they went past them originally
. There were so many more logical options around.
