Default Is this a good deal for a sub?

I need a new sub and was wondering if this sounded like a good deal? I would like to replace my JBL sub that is huge, it's like the size of a small table.

Don't give up sub strengths for size - I'm unsure what sub you have, but this 50W entry-level offering from Polk - a lot of distortion past 50 Hz, lot of port chuffing - might not be a worthy change, not sure if u can call it an "upgrade." If size is a concern, the Polk PSW111 is a great choice that is better than the PSW10, albeit at a bigger cost.

The sub I have now came in a 6.1 home theater set. It's the jbl SUB160.

Even though Polk is a great "Speakers" brand name, it's not good with subs. Hsu and Velodyne are kings here. Good sub is a big sub also. That's why 12" subs with size of a small table are most popular. But if size matters I'll recommend 8" Hsu that will sound better then 12" Polk.

Check out newegg.com. It's a bit cheaper than Crutchfield. In my experience, Crutchfield is really expensive. When I research places to buy electronics, they are always one of the most expensive sites.

Is the Polk sub better than what I currently have?

Better is relative. Is it better enough to buy a whole new sub?

... coming from a current 50w Polk sub owner, I have to say no. I was watching "Meet Dave" (yeah, my kid liked it) and there are some really deep bass parts that sounded awful with my sub. I can't recommend someone pick up a Polk sub with what I hear and what I read.

So I should keep my jbl SUB 160 and save up for a better sub?

I have not heard the Polk Audio PSW10 but i was warned not to get one. In fact, I was so swayed I turned one down when I bought my RTi10s

Ok so it looks like the Polk is out. I don't think i've read one thing good about it. Can someone recommend a sub in that price range that will be an upgrade over my jbl sub160?

Not going to happen. That thing will not fit my space or pass the WAF test. I have gotten approval (lol... approval) to get a new sub after my birthday next week. It'll either be Cadence or Hsu, which are both smaller, cheaper, and WAF friendly. I have no doubt the eD is an amazing sub, but it's overkill in multiple ways for me.

The HSU STF-1 is the best bet for both Aramis and you, Underworld.

http://hsuresearch.com/products/stf-1.html

Nothing better at this price.

Incorrect. I'd put my Martin Logan Dynamo or a Martin Logan Abyss against anything in the same range. And the kings for internet direct subs - you've got two, you're missing AV123, SVS, and eD.

It is a monster of a sub. I'm going to have to move my furniture around to accommodate it.
