None of the other threads seemed appropriate for this discussion, nor would this received any visibility in them.
My big question is: when are these 2017 high end Sony and LG sets going to go on backorder, and closeout, at Best Buy? As in, when do you think things like the 930E, Z9D, B7, E7 are no longer going to be deliverable to the stores from their warehouses? When this happens the stores will be doing BIG discounts on just their display models. It's inevitable to be happening sometime in the next 1-6 weeks, by early March. I'm considering checking in with the stores every week and trying to snag a high-end display model. It's just going to magically pop up one day. These $2500-5000 display sets are going to be available a single time, for ~$1000-1500, when they have to completely remove them from the sales floor. The regularly sold boxed units don't really ever go on closeout pricing; they are simply sold until they are gone. I'm mainly referring to display televisions Best Buy stores. I'm not sure if its a wise move to buy a display OLED...but on the other hand if its been playing for one whole year with little sign of IR then that's probably a good thing. But I would absolutely love to snag something like a Z9D for dirt cheap. What do you guys think of all this? If money is no object for you then I'm really not interested in your rationalization. I'm on a tight budget, as are a lot of people. i.e. "just buy a new 940E" has no business in this discussion; that's not what this thread is about. |

November and NOW are your best times to buy last years models. Oddly, once previous models get low inventory in the next year, pricing will go up. Robert Zohn, who is a member here and owns Value Electronics has great pricing on displays now.
He is usually my choice because I avoid taxes, and his service is great! Now sure, you can prob get a good deal on a display model, but I am personally not fond of display models. End of the day, the next 30 days you are in that realm which you seek, so start looking. |

I generally get a tv once a year, just buy around this time and roll with it. But like I said, I am not a fan of a floor model, especially an OLED. |

Good displays don’t magically have prices slashed to clear out inventory, they get sold at the usual manufacturer recommended pricing for that display as the new models appear. Yes the vendor is the main party that sets BB pricing. You might find a store demo store on sale because they need to move it separately for the new models being received. As mentioned last couple of weeks is the time to see if you find a open box bargain.

Yes, store demos are exactly what I'm referring to. Not open box pricing, not final inventories, not best seasonal sales. I'm looking for closeout on display models; I understand that it is very niche and the timing is very difficult. Hence the thread. It is starting to happen over the course of the next several weeks as these 2017 models get phased out from the sales floor because the company no longer has units to sell. Don't think it's happening yet. Will be closer to when new models hit the stores for display.
Go to Best Buy now and make friends with the head associate in tv department. Talk about HDR or movies or both. Mention Dolby Vision, 10+ anything that will let him/her know you know what is going on with HDR tv's. Eventually let them know when the current display models come down that you're going to be interested in buying one. Keep it friendly and chatty, if they respond to your friendly inquiries. Good Luck. |

I went through this very thing last year hopin to score a 2016, but then a 2017 model hit a price i couldnt pass up. Going by last years inventory and history of sales, the absolute best time to buy a 2017 model will be in April-June. That's when places like buydig, frys, etc will be unloading the last of their inventory at stupidly low prices. Guys were picking up NEW 65 inch B6 OLEDS for as little as $1600 in June. I almost pulled trigger myself, but was able to score a 65 C7 for only $2034 tax included so couldn't see the $400 difference being not worth it.
So yeah, wait a while. If this year plays out like last year did, there will be great deals come spring. BUT you will have to be extremely diligent and willing to put in the time and research to get said deal. Best advice, go sign up for slickdeals website. Add keyword searches for the models you are looking for, and if one pops up in your price range move on it within minutes. It's how is scored my OLED at $1800 off MSRP. But i literally was at Fry's 23min after the deal got posted, and even still, got the 2nd to last tv they had in stock, and then the deal was over with. last, skip bestbuy... they never offer good sales on anything but floor models that have been used and abused beyond belief. Last year the best price they offered for a floor model, was still higher than Frys daily deals were, and far higher than buydig would offer every couple weeks. |
